I had it happen on I-49 recently by a Gilchrist truck. I knew it was gonna be on me so I just pulled up on the side of him and yelled ugly things and gave him the finger. Poor guy.

Yea everyone keeps taking deductibles, it's a matter of filling a chip not replacing the whole windshield.

File an insurance claim for a chipped windshield and watch that premium go up.

Just live with it as I do. I have a dozen chips and when it gets too bad I call Safelight for a replacement out of pocket for about $300.00. And they come do it in my garage.

And I have more than a dozen trucks on the road and no, I'm not paying for some yeehaa 's windshield. And to show you just how much of a dick I am, when a woman called to complain about a vehicle driving too fast I told her I would take care of it. While I told her that she was sitting behind me at the light because my office phone rolls to my mobile. I watched her in my mirror squint to read my own license plate. I love that shite.

If your premium goes up for a windshield comp claim, you might want to think about switching companies.

Correct, most insurance companies cover chips. I should have made my post clearer by mentioning that I wasn't referring to the easy fix chips but a replacent of the glass.

Guaranteed the top truck has a sign that they're not responsible for damage. They'll just argue that you were closer than 200 feet. Your fault

You think just because one puts a sign on the back that they are not responsible?

Every driver is 100% responsible for securing their loads, whether it be an F-150 or an 18 wheeler.

...and it is the driver's responsibility to secure the load, not the company.

I have had the rock thing happen a few times in the last 10 years. I usually follow the guilty party while calling the State police to pull them over--it takes a few miles of following.

The state police can easily see fresh glass dust from the chip and the guilty party will usually have debris on the back of the truck.

The LSP will issue that driver a citation, and then I will file a claim on his insurance for windshield replacement.

My windshields run about $1300, so that is why I just don't "let it go".

Right but there is nothing you can do about another car kicking up a rock chipping your windshield.

The op never said it fell out of the truck, or was wven kicked up by the truck, he just automatically assumed it did. He heard a thud, saw the chip, then saw the truck.

ETA Forgot to quote the part I was answering:

My State Farm policy used to pay to repair chips, but they amended it a few years ago to eliminate that coverage. I've paid to repair a couple chips since. It was only about $50.

One benefit of having a local agent is that I know I can call on things like this and get straight info. Same ladies have been working in there for 20 years.

I got a big chip right in the center of my vision driving 40 mph on O'Neal. First time any Rock has ever hit my car on a surface street. I was pissed.
