Yeah, I will never for the life of me understand the northshore phenomenon and why people want to live there.

NOLA has been nothing but a shite hole for a long time. I avoid that place like the plague.

I love how they continue to pretend to believe they are just being good northeastern liberals, and somehow stay willfully ignorant to the fact that they are propping up and enabling a completely dysfunctional kleptocracy

And the ones that are leaving are going to do the same to whatever city they go to.

he various social experiments touted by the Progressives, this was no doubt the most idiotic. I don't care how "Progressive" you are, NO ONE wants to live in the ghetto. Hell, they made a hit TV show about this very concept. The Jeffersons were moving on up and every one else wants to do the same.

I also never understood the idea that some people would be expected to pay full price while living alongside and basically subsidizing free loaders who will trash the area.

It's a shitty option if you don't work there because it is a guaranteed 45=50 minute commute each way, but I can see the appeal if you have kids and they don't get into any of the decent charter schools, and you don't have the money to pay for private school.

But that's about the only way I see it as a viable option.

It's not but just as the murder rate today is minuscule compare to the 90s, so is the over all crime rate .. The point is people saying that it's so bad and everybody is moving out and the city will never survive - don't know history and are comical.

Here are the stats for 1990-2014

LINK

Property crime and violent crime show a very similar trajectory.

ETA: Also has per capita stats that show the same trajectory.

The number of murders in New Orleans since 1990

1990: 304
1991: 345
1992: 279
1993: 395
1994: 424
1995: 363
1996: 351
1997: 267
1998: 230
1999: 158
2000: 204
2001: 213
2002: 258
2003: 274
2004: 264
2005: No official record
2006: 162
2007: 209
2008: 179
2009: 174
2010: 175
2011: 200
2012: 193
2013: 156
2014: 150
2015: 164
2016: 175
2017: 80 (as of last weekend). My simple estimation has the number of murders at 191 by the end of the year.

And that number is minuscule compared with the 1990s ... People are blowing this so much out of proportion it's not even funny

Well, lets look at the NOLA population back then and now today.

1990 496,938
2000 484,674
2010 343,829
2015 389,617

NOLA had 100k more people in the 90's compared to today. Kinda makes sense they would have more murders. The murder rate trending back up is a sign something is obviously wrong.

I heard that they were leaving and vowing to never return because the Confederates offended them. It was one thing to send your kids to cell block C to be educated, and dodge bullets in the streets, and yet quite another to be surrounded by the CSA.

That's what Mitch said...

I upvote. Then I wished I hadn't because before I did, the score was 28-3.

Yup. Things were looking good for a couple years but our leadership sucks. Mitch was in Tennessee the other day supporting them to remove monuments. WTF? We have multiple shootings, car jackings, and armored trucks being robbed and our mayor is in Tennessee. What a fricking clown. All those naive people that support him and want to see him run for President are clowns too. Too stupid to see Mitch is just using the black community for his own political gain.

I left the Westbank (which arguably is a small smidgen better than NOLA) in 2006 and didn't fricking look back.

My folks back at home (still at the same house I grew up in) watched their neighborhood go to shite, Apartments a few blocks over go full section 8, and literally not a damn good road anywhere to be round.

I flew in for 2 weeks last December on vacation. I stood in NOLA long enough to watch the Saints/Detriot game and a Pelicans game. I stood the rest of my time in Houma. YES frickING HOUMA. I had a better time on the bayou than I did looking at blight and pure shite.

I make great money in Dallas and would take a 200k job offer for me to move back home to NOLA.

As Resto put in another thread, we have autobahns, we have great schools, and the women are just as fricking hot.

Not to mention a growing competitive job market. Especially in my field (Engineering).

God forbid another one come into the chute and flood the city again.

It won't come back. All the SJWs and Jersey hipsters aren't gonna gut houses and rebuild anything. They're there to drink Moscow Mules in dress shoes with no socks and post pics on Instagram of their gay little friends holding up an appetizer next to a fat chick sweating like a whore in church.

frick that shithole. The roads suck. Mayor sucks. Residents are gay, fat, can't fight, and just sit there and take it in the arse from a mayor that wishes he was black.

Massive shithole.

Also the crime in now spreading to areas of the city that were once considered to be "safe" are now having armed robberies and shooting on the regular in those areas.

I mean 2 out of 3 of those places are objectively superior in terms of job opportunities and infrastructure, and BR might even be better in terms of feasibly getting away from the crime and filth.

Another Hurricane with a Katrina type result will absolutely ruin any hope of New Orleans turning around. Post Katrina it truly was amazing the hope and resilience people showed. People truly believed they could make the city a better place and Katrina was an opportunity to start fresh. My family was one of those families. Now, the general attitude of the people that make the city actually run, not the people Dirty Mitch and the boys pander to, is incredibly negative. If a hurricane damages the City significantly, thats all she wrote. We will be Detroit or Jackson Mississippi. End of story. NOBODY with any sense will rebuild a second time for these idiots. Its sad but true.
