all my family lives in New Orleans. my parents, who i don't have much of a relationship with, live in Winston-Salem.

guess how often i look into what the crime rate or governmental problems of Winston-Salem are.

if your family is still living here, they must not be too concerned so relax and enjoy Dallas.

Interesting you say that, because I check a lot back at home.

My folks are old as frick and my mother wants to move however, my father is a major coonass and super hard headed.

I am not sure why me living in Dallas has any bearing on how things effect my elderly parents back at home.

we can't pick where our parents decide to drop roots

I agree, but don't say that it's better than New Orleans. New Orleans has it's issues, but it's still light-years better than the fricking Wank. The Wank's only redeeming quality is that it's near New Orleans

I've pretty much given up on NOLA already. I don't want to leave, but the city is making it hard for me to stay.

When you have 3rd and 4th generation New Orleanians leaving the city, you know it's got to be bad. It's heartbreaking to realize that the city you fell in love with isn't the same anymore, and for quality of life reasons, it's best to move on.

Next week I'm moving away for a professional opportunity I felt was worth leaving for. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here and will happily come home if it makes even remote financial sense.

Why would anyone want to stay in NOLA? You have a terrible PD, a mayor who cares more about taking down statues, high violent crime rate, terrible public schools, the list goes on.

I love NOLA, but something's gotta give.

Replace NOLA with Baton Rouge and you can say the same about here as well!

I lived in mid-city and Lakeview in the early 2000's. Left for the northshore just before Katrina. Somewhat toyed with the idea of moving back after Katrina bc my, now ex, wife was working at Touro. Nagins "Chocolate City" remark sealed the deal for us...we stayed in Mandeville/Covington.

This. Aftermath of Katrina was third world enough. At least all the violent criminals fled the city.

Where can I find the crime stats for the first six months of 2006. I recall about 200k were back but there were only like 4 murders.

Baton Rouge is headed down the same path with its current mayor and her administration.

Moved to San Diego 3 months ago and couldn't be happier. Born and raised in Nola my entire life except going to Lsu and brief stint in thibodaux for a job. I'm still getting used to not having to look over my shoulder when walking around at night. Love what Nola once was but has become a shite show.

Not necessarily. The air in Chicago is a lot dirtier. You can see the dirty air from the interstate on the way in.

Example: replacing the projects. Great idea, but you can't replace the projects and keep them surrounded by shite. You can't make "mixed income" housing developments, cause they will become projects again. Upper middle class people aren't going to want to live next to those on welfare and housing assistance, so they aren't gonna come and those units set aside for them will be taken by people on housing assistance leaving you back to the way it was before and turning your shiny new buildings into shite.

It's like kicking an anthill

There is no easy, politically correct solution for nola

And in the east. There are some nice, big homes in decent neighborhoods.

Same in Seattle and Denver. As you drive in, there is a huge dirty Brown cloud.
