Crawfish are overrated af. The boil is more a traditional social gathering than anything imo

It’s no mystery. A handful of wholesalers fix the price every Monday. And I mean fix. It’s all done in unison. Not one ever varies. Their only goal is to stretch the spread between the farmer and end user.

The public/market. That's who sets it ultimately. Because if prices were truly "too high" then people wouldn't buy them and the price would have to come down.

Do people really not understand simple supply and demand principles?

Kind of. But you need a free market for that to be the case. I think the accusation is that there’s collusion among those that sell crawfish.

Price fixing isn’t legal…even if the market is willing to pay the prices.

I bet if everyone didn't buy them for one full week and weekend, the prices would drop drastically.

I dont think Ill buy until they drop below the equivalent amount of shrimp.

They need to be like $2.50/lb live for that to happen.

Think of it like a commodity

Miners don’t set the price of gold

O&G companies don’t set the price of oil

Corn, rice, wheat, etc

100% accurate! 4-5 of the largest wholesalers in the state dictate the price.

Troy is one of the 3 - 5 wholesalers who set the price.

True statement! Every Monday 'Let's drop it a quarter." Why? Because they can and they are the major buyers by a long shot.

Yes it will as soon as the deep water fisherman start tearing them up when the season is almost over. They can talk shite but if they wouldn't wait until the summer to pump water into the basin, there'd be an abundance of crawfish. Maybe they can't idk but it's part of the crawfish drought.

All you need to do is identify who these price fixers are , and you have a hell of an anti-trust class action suit.
But calling you out to actually name the folks you claim are doing this is a bridge too far, i suppose...
