Really sucks when an innocent law abiding driver gets killed by a moron

I’m so tired of seeing people trying to pass cars putting others in danger everyday on hwy 30.
the fact that Highway 30 is still a two Lane Road all the way up to I 10 shows the complete ineptness that is LADOT.

Driver posted a profile pic on feb 19.

One of the comments was asking if he is still in “Next Step”.

Google tells me this is an addiction and rehab program in baton rouge.

It seems it is adequate at 2 lanes. Maybe at times there is a lot of cars on it, but not at 6pm on a Saturday. People need to abide by simple traffic laws and use common sense

Do you live off of Nicholson? It may be slow most of the time but in the mornings and in the afternoons when everyone is taking kids to school and going to work or back home, it is almost impossible to even get out of UClub or Lexington. You have to just pull out in front of someone. Add in that eventually we will have the new bridge emptying into Nicholson somewhere around St. Gabriel and you will absolutely have to 4 lane it. Don’t put it off, do it now!

There are now four subdivisions that feed into it over a 2 mile span (UClub, Lexington, Woodstock, UClub South) and it is a major artery to/from Iberville Parish. Two lanes is completely inadequate for that.

It is impossible to get in/out of those subdivisions with traffic in the mornings and afternoons. UC pays to have a cop stop westbound traffic to let their cars get out. Shame on the city & state leaders past and present who have been too lazy address this up front. Somebody always has to die first.

Something needs to be done. If not widening, then add traffic lights and/or lower the speed limit to 45.

You will be responsible for the next person to be injured. Pull out in front of someone driving 55-60 plus mph. I’ve lost count how many times I have had to hit the shoulder because of this with a few times happening in front of your neighborhood cop. I understand DOTD didn’t approve a red light but at the very least you would think the new subs being built would be required to have an acceleration/merge lane.

They let developers build these large subdivisions with only one outlet then empty on a busy road or large highway.

But certainly 30 should have been four laned a couple of decades ago. In fact we in EBR voted a tax in 2005 to four lane 30 from LSU South to Brightside/Lee but it hasn’t been done yet. Apparently Broome has other priorities.

We voted in 2015 to four lane the rest of 30 to the parish line in the MovEBR bond issue, but that’s probably decades down the road too. We have to fix up Plank Road first.

There was another wreck with a car on fire in front of Lexington a month or so ago. Luckily nobody died in that one.

There’s legitimately no other way to get out. Go to one of those subdivisions around 7:30 any weekday morning. Best case traffic backs up all the way from the bluebonnet red light and people are going 20 or 30.

I used to have to turn left out of there every morning. It’s brutal.

I've been on 30 and some a-hole was trying to pass with very little room before oncoming traffic...if I didn't slow down by like 20 mph he would not have made it in time.

There is no excuse for this but there have been times where I have been stuck behind someone going 35 on hwy 30 and there is no way to go around them. It needs to be 4 lanes.

This cop is more dangerous than helpful IMO. He sits in the median with his lights blinding all the cars going up and down 30. You can’t even see him standing in the road at the right times.

the builders that keep adding subdivisions off of busy two lane highway without proper infrastructure. And the idiots that would buy a home in a subdivision without adequate infrastructure to get to and from.

Plenty of blame to go around.

Don’t be so dramatic. I’ve never once forced someone to swerve in the shoulder to avoid me. But I am pulling out in front of people that I would normally never pull out in front of. They do have to let off their gas and maybe even brake a little but not swerve or slam on their brakes. I live in Lexington and we don’t have a cop stopping traffic for us. There is literally no other way out without doing this. At least I’m taking a right, I don’t know how anyone leaves and goes left.

Uhh. It could be 8 lanes and if people drive like idiots, there will be a crash. Take responsibility and quit blaming others for horrendous driving

In what planet?

For 5-6 am? Yeah, okay. And that's assuming no westbound interstate issues or else people are coming off I10 at 30 to avoid it.

After that until about 9? Nope, sorry.

I’m not the one who is saying that me turning out of my neighborhood is so urgent that I have to pull out in front of someone traveling 55 or more instead of waiting for a break in Traffic. Your neighborhood is not nearly as bad as U Club. Those drivers are reason I purchased a dash cam.

Moron do-nothing DOTD admins./lack of ANY kind of regional planning authority/allowing developers to do as they please ANYWHERE they choose...ALL these factors lead to what we now have and ALWAYS will...until a few STATES-MEN step to the fore and TELL/FORCE the voting public to finally bite the bullet and DO the common sense RIGHT things !!

What do you call drivers that do 10% less than the speed limit, because all the people behind them shouldn't be in a hurry anyway?

THIS! I live in this area and too many people do 40MPH when it's a 55MPH zone making everyone miserable and trying to pass. Not to mention people pull out in front of you from the neighborhoods constantly forcing you to lock up not to hit them. They can't 4 lane Hwy 30 soon enough.
