REDDING, Calif. — Nearly one year after one of the most destructive wildfires in California history, a small fire department that battled the blaze is celebrating.
The Redding Fire Department was on the front lines of the 2018 Carr Fire. The northern California fire department has since welcomed a whole new generation of firefighters to its family.

There were 12 babies born to Redding Fire Department members in the past year, KRCR reports. There are three sets of twins. "After the Carr Fire, after we all went through something emotional, we all got together and were telling each other what was happening, and we all kind of figured out we were all pregnant together," said Kimberly Hanlon, wife of a Redding Fire Department firefighter.

The wives said the Carr Fire brought them closer together as their husbands were out trying to keep everyone safe. "We actually communicated day and night, 24/7," said Hanlon. "It was a hard time especially being pregnant, everyone, you know, trying to get together and help each other." California fire officials said the Carr Fire destroyed more than 1,000 homes.
