Been with a company 5 years but have an opportunity with a company that has much better work/life balance and a better long term career trajectory, however I’d have to take about a 10% pay cut. This company is even thinking about moving to a 4 day work week

I wouldn't. I don't have any visions that the company I work for is the place where I will retire. It can't be because we have a certifiable crazy woman in charge and I don't say that in jest.

But as long as they pay me what they pay me, I will continue on until I can find something that pays equal or better.

If 10% doesn't affect you much, do it.

You said it. Better long term trajectory. If you’re actually any good you’ll make more money at the place that has more opportunities to advance. Bet on yourself kid.

Nah. I've done it multiple times, just never works out they way you think it will. I'm at a point where I'm not taking a cut.

If it has better long term career trajectory (which I’d assume is more stability and likely better pay anyway) then a 10% sounds like it’s worth it with the other benefits.

I just did.

Had to travel every week. One week I had to spend 4 nights in a hotel. Following week I put 800 miles on my car. 80% of the time we don’t get lunch breaks.

New job will be about 15k less a year but its an 8-5, I go to the same place every day, and its a much more relaxed work environment, and after 3 years I can get board certified

You would have to be moving into a position where you know your upside is better. Whether that is work responsibility, upward mobility or even work-life balance, you'd have to feel it. I assume the company has positions your could aspire to that pay more than you're making now. So yes I can see it.

This opportunity appears to be a much less stressful place as well with better people to work with/for

One rule I won't break when interviewing is they have to at least match my current salary. This is a deal breaker for me.

At the end of the day we are all there for money for ourselves and family.

Only way I'd take a pay cut is if I'd drink beer and play golf all the time at new place.

Absolutely. Your work should be to support your lifestyle. Sounds like you would be able to enjoy your life more. Plus, the long term has more upside? I'd 100% do it if 10% doesn't prevent me from paying the bills.

I took a decent pay cut to switch to a new career. Money is important, but I'm much happier doing what I'm doing now. Being single made it easier for me, but %10 doesn't seem that bad if it doesn't mean can't pay the bills.

I would. There are few things more important than a better quality of life, so just think of the pay cut as an “expense.”

Of course depends on the overall financial situation.

Depends on how much you make. If you're going from 90k to 81k in Louisiana, sure. If you're going from 55k to 50k that's a tough pill to swallow.

Absolutely would. Money is great and all but happiness at a place where you spend most of your waking hours is better

Depends on the pay cut.

I took a 5k pay cut but negotiated 2 additional weeks of vacation for a total of 5 weeks off.

I was stressed and miserable at the old job and valued and welcomed at the new gig.
