Would you survive a tsunami

Hypothetical situation: you're on the beach at a resort and a tsunami is coming. If you were to put on scuba gear, assuming that you had plenty of oxygen, would you tie yourself to the bottom of the pool as the tsunami hit? I'll hang and up listen.

You would get destroyed by debris

I don’t speak Japanese.
I’d survive by ordering off the picture menu.

Tsunamis can travel up to and sometimes over 500 mph so No I don't think your scuba idea will work.

I’d just dive under it as it breaks.

Nope and hope I'd get hit by a boat in the process. Make it quick

Why do all that when you can get a surf board

The only way I’d think you scuba gear situation works is if you are in the first or second floor of a solid concrete building, and even then, you are hoping the building doesn’t collapse or a piece of debris doesn’t take you out.
If we are talking Deep Impact type tsunami, we all fricked anyway.

Water is a very powerful force. My guess is that it would rip you off of your tether. At best, your leg will be left behind so maybe write you SSN on it in black sharpie.

After watching footage of the Thailand and Japanese tsunamis I am convinced that would be about the most terrifying thing that a human being could experience.

Yeah I don't think that's happening.

if you managed to survive the surge in, you wouldn't like the part where it sucked your arse out to open water.

It’d have to be one helluva a tsunami to get me in the middle of Tennessee.

When the seas retreat, go to higher ground immediately.
We actually have to do a tsunami drill at work
