Would you support a company like Clearview AI implementing facial recognition technology throughout your city if it could substantially help law enforcement identify criminals and reduce crime as a result?

Absolutely fricking not. Anyone who can’t see the slippery slope with that is either an outright totalitarian or a drooling retard.

We'd have to be dealing with South Chicago level violence before that would be worth discussing

The tendency of people in power to abuse that ability is just too much of an existential threat.

It's so tempting as it would fix New Orleans, but the risks are too great.

No, and I would actively shoot sensors with a pellet gun. Massive overreach of the 4th.

I agree. At minimum, the legal framework on how it is allowed to be used would have to be ironed out so that cases of abuse could be dealt with in court with as little grey area as possible. A system of checks would have to be put in place on the users too, so we avoid situations where people spy on their exes like employees at the NSA do

This is why choosing only the best candidates is so important during city and county races (and why local politics should mean more than national)

They could be both.

I'd like some facial recognition shades for personal use. Would be fun hitting someone with their home address and wife's name instantly when I feel wronged by their actions.

"Oh you're just gonna cut in line huh? Trying to get home to Karen at 1326 Cherry Tree Lane? Yea you better get home, she looks mean."

1984 for real. The temptation would be strong to try to use it to curb increasing violent crime but, as with all sorts of things we are dealing with today, I think that once you open the door a crack, someone will come behind you and open it wide or take it off the hinges entirely.
