It has taken more than that from a lot of people.

Hard to regret if I'm not around.

Would you regret your life off alcohol consumption for those extra 20 years of life?
not really. i like wine/beer/bourbon, but don't need it by any stretch. but i've had a few bottles of wine i'd consider trading a year or two for.

I already regret my life of drinking without even thinking about the years it is taking off of my life.
A person is less productive the day after getting drunk.
A person has less motivation the day after getting drunk.
A person has more anxiety the day after getting drunk.
The most productive days of an alcoholic's life, are the days after they don't drink too much.
Regret brings character.... drinking brings good times and fun stories.... who wants to always want to be the most efficient at everything? What's the purpose?

How many of your life stories started out with your buddies in a bar or with your significant other and a bottle of wine? I wouldn't trade those for anything.

There are just some things in life that you can't go through sober.

I don't get this, I make my own money and have my own retirement in hand without relying on a hand-me-down. Why do people need to rely on others to take care of them?
I told my dad and tell my mom that the last check the write should bounce!

If I could go back, I wouldn't drink a drop.
It took me until I was 22 to realize the alcohol wasn't giving me confidence.
I would be a much better person and much better off.
But what if you were 35 and you had a career, partner, house, etc. You drink because you just love it and your personal/professional life are fine? Can I, I mean whomever, continue drinking heavily?

alcohol isn't really addictive. It's not like weed or pills that'll ruin your life

Maybe. Or MAYBE get back the (estimating conservatively) $95k or so I spent on booze, and that doesn't even count binges sitting at bars, so probably well in excess of $100k.
Add in 20 years of being clear-headed, and another 20 healthy years at the end to spend with grandkids, yeah, I'd drink less than I did.
I don't regret drinking. I regret drinking so much for so long.

Wtf is up with the anti-alcohol add? Sure, there are alcoholics that need help, but let's not state that a light to moderate intake of alcohol will automatically take yrs off your life like cigarettes.
To the contrary, light to moderate drinkers can actually have longer lives.
