So...you're like one half of the 2 examples I've seen.

No. I'd probably like to pick their brain as to what prompted the change and why they were drawn to the new religion. I'd also be somewhat proud they chose to think for themselves and put forth some effort in searching for their faith.

Not very Christian like.
I grew up Catholic and now got to a Methodist church. My parents are happy because my family is happy.

Are they trying to constantly to sell Mormonism or Atheism to me in attempts to convert me?
No. Neither are. One hasn't talked to his folks in 6 months, the other about 3 weeks. Over this situation.

There’s not a lot that could cause me to cut off my kids.

Often repeated but false. World War II was started by those who lacked any traditional religion.
Same with Korea and Vietnam.
Also the same with the Greek/Persian wars, Punic wars, Rome/Celtic wars of Julius Caesar, or any of the military conquests of the Khans.

Typical religious hypocrites. Religion is a cancer on the human race. It keeps you in spiritual bondage.

This.

Anyone who would do that needs to reevaluate the meaning, purpose and goal of their own religion.

I would never cut them off but I would not support their decision.
God doesn't cut us off from his love when we reject him and go our own way. If and when we repent and come back into his graces he holds no grudge and welcomes us home with no reservations. However we can not enjoy all of God's blessings while living apart from Him. It's our choice, our free will.
It would sadden me to see my children going down a path away from God's grace but I know they have free will just as I do. In the end we each have to stand in account for our own lives before Christ. As I say often here you can not force someone to believe and It's not our responsibility to force belief we have to make sure everyone has the knowledge and truth to exercise their free will in an positive way.

If they brought their new beliefs around me including politics then yes. If they can’t enjoy company with out it then I’d say call me when you can hold a conversation that doesn’t involve your new found religion or political leaning.

I was raised Catholic. I have since decided that religion is complete BS & nothing more than a form of control over weak minded people. My mom prays for me everyday, Dad couldn't care less.

I'm sure Christ would advocate for cutting them out of your life....
In my experience the most diehard Christians are very often the quickest to act the exact opposite of how Christ would when it comes to loved ones rejecting the faith.

I am a Christian.
Any religion that supports cutting off family members simply for believing something different is not a religion, it’s a cult.

A girl I went to college with came from a family that (1) did not have a lot of money and (2) were all members of a "holy roller" type church that was very controlling.
She defected during college and the family disowned her. The church was local and it was very aggressive in trying to stop her from leaving.
She married a guy that was from a very wealthy family. Many years later, her family was destitute needing money. They asked her for help (the first communications in years). She ignored them, and she ignored them in the right way (by not responding in any way, the best way to avoid drama).
Karma was well served.
Not sure anyone won in this situation. Cutting off family is a net loss.

I have deep religious convictions but I would absolutely continue to talk to my kids. That goes the same if they choose a life of sexual sin. Would I condone or celebrate their choice? Absolutely not. But it would take a hell of a lot to make me disown and cut off all communication with my kids.

As soon as my kids stop believing in Santa Clause we'll no longer be on speaking terms.
I explained, round about, to my kids...that if you don't "believe" in Santa (even if you don't really believe in Santa), you won't get the gifts he brings. So...just keep on believing, in your heart, even if you don't in your head. You'll be surprised how you might come around the more you learn.

Neighbor is an atheist and his daughter married a Christian man, she has turned towards religion and it pisses him off. They seldom talk, can’t imagine that way or vice versa being that way towards kids. I personally don’t think it’s as common as people make it out to be, refusing to speak to kids for going towards or away from religion
