Would You Drive This? 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL "Cocaine Cowboy" Edition

Obviously the W198 SL is the best Mercedes roadster ever (first gen). The second generation was also iconic and beautiful.
The third gen is a little different. It features 1980s Mercedes-Benz quality and durability, but isn't as imaginative as the first and second gen SL. On the bright side, this car screams "cocaine cowboy" and isn't the fully on Barbie-Benz that the fourth generation SL became.
Would You Drive This? 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL.....With the caveat that it's your daily driver.

That's a 5.5L engine, putting out about 240 horsepower:

This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL was first sold at Dowd Imports in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and remained in the same family until 2017, and it sold on BaT in 2018 before the seller’s acquisition on BaT in March 2019 and now shows under 29k miles. The car is finished in Desert Taupe Metallic over Brazil Brown leather and powered by a 5.5-liter V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a dark brown convertible top, a body-color removable hardtop, an aftermarket Joying touchscreen stereo, automatic climate control, cruise control, 15? wheels, and fog lights. Services in December 2019 consisted of refurbishment to the cruise-control module and replacement of the distributor cap, spark plugs, fuel filter, and shifter bushings. This R107 is now offered with spare parts, factory literature, a maintenance booklet, a clean Carfax report, and a British Columbia registration document.

That car would be a pleasure to drive. While all the safety features are nice, the driving experience of most new cars is numb. IMO, kids today aren't as interested in cars in part because most sold now are boring to drive.

I prefer the SL's without the gullwing doors. The 1980s models with the rounded headlights are a favorite.

That car is sweet.
Daily driver though would be tough as I drive 40 miles one way for work.

I have a 4.7L putting out 640. Crazy the hp they can get out of an engine now.

No, I would not. If I'm gonna do the '80s Cocaine Cowboy thing, I'm driving this.

Most family sedans of today will curb stomp most sports cars of even 25 years ago on a track. Straight line and not.

I've ridden in one once. Compared to sport cars today it was like riding in a Panzer, and it was good.

No doubt. Cars have much more power. Old sports cars were slow. I'm talking about the feel while you drive. That generation SL is still fun to drive. Later ones not so much.

I have a CLK550 cabriolet 5.5L V8 with 382 HP.
Total beast, but definitely NOT a daily driver.

Reminds me of my first car.
An 1984 300SD. That thing was great!

My dad has had this exact car for almost 20 years (although with a lot more miles and in much worse shape), so have gotten to drive quite a bit....and even put it in the ditch back in high school.
Shocked it’s only 240hp, the engine is loud and the car “feels” much faster than that. Not a quick car but always felt like it had so much power... I touched 115 once and it felt like it wasn’t ever going to stop accelerating.
Car is very heavy though, and not much room. The hard top is a pain to take on/off and the soft top always had issues.
Daily driver? Absolutely. I bet the gas mileage sucks though!

Nothing wrong with that car. For the price they have listed I’d buy it and drive it till it rusted apart - IF it was in the US.

My neighbor in New Orleans used to drive one of those. Same color and everything. It was badass. He had a Mercedes GL as his daily driver though.
