My Uber driver last week have me his business card and said to call him directly when I need a ride so he can bypass Uber fees and give riders a better rate.

Yes, but that also dictates that you keep meticulous records and pay someone who probably knows more about tax knowledge than you, adding further expenses. Also, unless that vehicle is only used for Ubering, you're going to have to differentiate between business and personal use.
That's a lot of paperwork, and because you're a contractor, you're not getting paid for that paperwork time.

You keep saying paperwork...all you have to do is record mileage. It'll add maybe 20-30 minutes to your Turbo Tax return.

For taxation purposes yes, but what about just normal business activities? Wouldn't you want to know if you're making a profit or just pissing money away?

I guess I'd be neurotic about putting down as much data as possible so I could figure out the best times/locations to be available, but I can see where some people wouldn't find that beneficial.
I'm not saying people shouldn't do Uber, but they should know what they are getting into and be aware of the pros and cons.

Uber sends you a weekly report of the peak hours and locations from the previous week.
None of it is rocket science. In BR peak times are Thurs-Sat from 10p-2am downtown, overpass, and Tigerland

I had a very success business owner tell me that he wasn't worried about what his accountants said. As long as there was more going into his checking account than coming out he knew he was doing fine.

Hey different strokes for different folks. I couldn't imagine running a business like that, but I also haven't been there and done that so I can't say he's wrong.
As for Golfer, that's fine, obviously I overrated paperwork. I guess Uber is a sweet money making machine, more people should do it.
