That's the thing, in some towns, based on the rates, I don't see how it's profitable for them. And I don't think every town has flat rates.

I don't think I would. I like sleep too much.
Uber driver I used last week said he just did it because he enjoys meeting new people and he only does it after his wife and kids go to bed. So he just goes out and drives people around and makes a little side cash.

true i mean, if one could avoid paying taxes on driving, im sure itd be decent.

As well as vehicle depreciation and wear and tear on the vehicle I bet. If you're doing enough that you're actually making real cash, I'd have to assume you'd blow through your car's warranties pretty fast anyways.

There seems to be a ton of drivers in New Orleans whenever I need one. Haven't met anyone that has complained about lack of business or not making any money

If he owns his car, technically the only fixed expenses would be the insurance (which I would be surprised if even 10% of Uber drivers are properly insured).
I just can't imagine working so little, while having to deal with being a contractor tax-wise.

What is your definition of "a killing"?
Let us know what the "killing" is after you account for income taxes, additional insurance costs, and vehicle costs let alone Uber's commission costs.

DoorDash is a service that places the food and picks it up and delivers. Similar to GrubHub, if you're familiar with that.

No they pick it up and deliver it to my house. I order and pay on the app then the food shows up usually 45 minutes to an hour later.
$5 service fee + gratuity

Guys lets face it, Uber drivers are not among the best and brightest of society. if you have to do Uber you are obviously not successful at what you do.
Most of them are failures, many are uneducated power bottoms.

Naaah. I've heard complaints from Uber drivers and checked out a message board for drivers. I think the only way to make it profitable is to be in a big city and just shuttle people to and from an entertainment/bar district. I mean, every time I've taken Uber, I've spent no more than $10-$12 on a ride. You know the driver only gets a bit of that money.

Couldn't you write off depreciation and gas purchases as business expenses? thus lowering your tax exposure to acceptable amounts?
