Would you do what Gary Plauche did?

On March 16, 1984, Gary Plauche shot and killed the kidnapper and molester of his son in the Baton Rouge Mtro Airport. Those of you who remember the event, (I was not alive when it happened) probably remember the day very clearly, as it was nationally covered in the media.
My question as a person who does not have children is: would you have done the same thing?
Also, what was the attitude like in BR while this story was unfolding?

Absolutely. I have kids. But frick it. I would do the exact same thing. With a smile on my face. My kids are mine to raise and keep safe. Dude did what he had to do. Justice system be damned.

Yep. If someone did that I'd absolutely want to make them pay. Life in jail doesn't sound like enough for me if you hurts kids period

I don't think he went to jail at all. Oh well imo. Any parent should be able to claim temporary insanity in that case.

I would think that this could fall under a "crime of passion" (which isn't a myth) and could be argued that way in court - could it not?

I vaguely remember this but don't remember the details. He did get off on something along those lines. I don't disagree with it either. Mikelbr or Jody can correct me if what I said is incorrect. frick that guy. He deserved to die.

I don't mind Jody shedding light on these threads. It was literally one of the biggest events in BR in the last half decade.
To answer the question though, I'd absolutely do what Gary did and wouldn't think twice about it.

If you did today what Gary Plauché did then, you’d die when you were hit by 15 to 30 rounds of 9mm from LEO.
NOT criticizing LEO. Just noting that in a post 9/11 world, you are going to die if you shoot someone surrounded by cops in an airport.
