OP, money can’t buy you happiness. But it will rent it for you.

I went from a job where I made no money with zero work life balance to a job where I make absurd money with slightly more work life balance. Difference is now I have the ability to do stuff and build a future for my family.

My current job is nowhere near as satisfying as my old job. But I love being able to do actual vacations with my family, and have a beautiful home, etc.

Nope. Not a significant increase.

35% raise isn’t significant?

Anything around 15% gets my attention

Do you want to make $240 pre-tax over the next 10 years or not?

Also, try to leverage the offer for a raise at your current job.

This is where I’m at. If I can get a little more out of my current job I’ll stay for sure.

How do most employers react when approached with an offer letter from another company? Have consistently gotten raises without ever asking for one over 10 years, so this would be a first.

No, but it's a lateral move.
If it's truly slightly more hours, I'd do it, easily.

It sucks. They may be willing to give it to you but they expect a whole lot in return usually. In your new job your starting at that salary so it’s not as much pressure to perform if you’re going in asking for a raise.

Ive only done it a few times, but I’ve never not had a company match. It just makes too much sense to keep your employees you trained. They will give you a song and dance though. Something along the lines of “Why didn’t you come to us first” so they can just match instead of offering you more than the new job.

I think that is more of a thing recruiters tell people to convince them to take the job so they can get their commission. I’ve done it a couple of times, and not once have my companies actually expected more of me. I think more likely, they new I was underpaid and now the new salary is more of what I should have gotten before.

It again just depends to where you are at in your career. Its different for everyone.

Is it $24/k in same area or is it more in a different state?

What is difference in benefit package. What is stability/longevity of new company?

Money Ian everything, it’s big but not everything

More hours is a big turn off though

Except for a couple of dickheads they are great.

What this really boils down to is the extra time. Do I want to put it in or not.

I'm not going to miss a meal now...and I gave up more money than $24K to get my time back.

It's a trade off. I get some of the money back, but lose some of the time I gained 3½ years ago. Maybe I should just stay put.

Also depends on how much your company values you. I've known people to try to leverage an offer from a similar firm, only to be told good luck on the new job.

It kind of depends on where you’re at with your career. If your young and trying to climb the ladder, it honestly makes more sense (in my mind) to find those jobs with long hours but more responsibility and ability to make a name for yourself.

Agreed. Im 12 years in, so im just coasting, ive climbed a small amount, which is as much as i want to
