Truer words..
On a car related note. I was at COTA this week with Skip Barber’s Team and got to do some laps in a few different cars and took one in a model 3 performance that impressed the shite out of me. I know it can’t go 30 or even 10 balls out laps but fricking hell that thing has some exit torque. I can get more into this if everyone wants to hijack this turd.

That said, Mercedes said they are exiting Formula E so electric racing is looking tough right now.

I wouldn't buy a dodge car, no.

If you want that, don’t buy a Tesla. They’re in step down already.

As open minded about racing as I am, the idea of watching electric race cars bores the living frick out of me.
Also, I wouldn’t read too much into AMGs exit of formula E. I think they’re just shuffling things around to prop up teams with changes in F1.

For a sub 40K Tesla? Why would I buy the lowest model?

Well, they’re all wrong so that’s a decent reason to argue it.
From Car and Driver -
"Every battery in an electric car sold in the U.S. comes with a warranty that lasts for a minimum of eight years or up to 100,000 miles, says CarFax. For example, Kia offers a battery pack warranty for 10 years or 100,000 miles, while Hyundai provides a lifetime coverage of its electric cars' batteries.
This standard warranty is excellent, but remember to take a look at the fine print. Some manufacturers only cover the battery if it completely dies and cannot hold a charge, which does not happen often. Brands like BMW, Chevrolet, Tesla, Volkswagen, and Nissan will cover a battery pack if its capacity drops to a certain percentage, usually 60 to 70 percent.
One major point to remember about a car's expected battery is that heat and lithium-ion do not pair well together. Cars that are located in hotter climates will typically experience a faster battery depletion. This is why most electric vehicles are equipped with a liquid-cooled battery pack.
Another thing that can diminish batteries' lifespan is using Level 3 fast-charging stations. These stations can charge the battery up to 80% in 30 minutes, but they can also overheat the battery. Carfax warns that this can affect the battery's long-term performance and longevity."
It doesn't mean that the batteries have to be replaced at 10 years or 100,000 miles, it depends on charging habits and exposure to hot environments. Other sources state that you should expect at least 10 years of life with your batteries before having to replace them. The drop in charging capacity percentage is from a video explaining the importance of following the manufacturer's recommendations to avoid the battery life being worse than that. I'm not against electric cars, but I think a lot of people are buying them that are unaware that the batteries have a finite life, which is greatly effected by the way they charge them. The car should not be treated like a cell phone and plugged in every chance you get to charge it back up. Also, don't expect very much when you go to sell a 6 or 7 year old electric car. Not many people will want to buy a vehicle that potentially requires such an expensive service in a few years. Just all things that people need to be aware of and consider prior to purchasing an EV.

You get the credit for whatever you buy, it's just capped. And if you are going to pay to lease it, that point is kind of moot anyway.

Toto will probably buy the team and get another title sponsor. A lot of big manufacturers have dropped out now though. Kind of hurts the future.
Or the writing is on the wall for F1 becoming all electric.

No, it not moot. I don't think you know what passed the Senate just a week ago.
The EV tax credit bill passed in the Senate means most people and/or EVs are not eligible anyways.
Under $40k EV and family making less than $100k/yr.

Ah.. car and driver. Such an illustrious and accurate car mag.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. C&D has been presented exactly zero battery degradation data from Tesla. Do you know why I know that? Because I have Tesla’s. It took Musk’s personal sign off for it. And I know what I went through to get it and I know every other individual in the world that has it that doesn’t work for Tesla. Anything you find on the internet is speculative garbage, at best. Warranties are not engineers guarantees, they are business calculations.

quote:had mine for 2 years, range has dropped 0-1 miles over that time.
Also the gas mileage will drop on an average of about 3% every year.

The gas tank has a special connection, so you have to use a specialized pump that takes all night to fill your car back up.
Not sure what takes all night to re-charge, and if you are smart, you have a charger installed in your garage
quote:dont use the super chargers all the time, not hard if you have a charger at your house
There is a rapid gas pump available, but using it will shorten your engine life prior to the expected 10 year period.

I did 3 hot laps in a Model 3 at VIR and was super impressed the power out of the apex was intoxicating and I was surprised at how much more aural feedback I could get from the tires. I can't imagine what a S Plaid would feel like. While I know it is faster than an M3 on pretty much any track I couldn't help but wonder when someone will get a similar drivetrain in a M3/M5 level chassis. Yes it will be heavy but the COG is very low and their aren't many featherweights left anyway.
I did feel like one of "those" supercar drivers you have probably encountered at track days that insist on being in the fastest lapping group. They bomb down the straights where most cars can't catch and pass them then drive like mawmaw through the corners where you are often not allowed to pass then roar off leaving the frustrated skilled driver in a Mini that was brushing his exhaust all the way through the corner. That being said despite the understated and clear obesity overall it was still a hoot to drive and seruptitiously obtained lap times don't lie.
I think it was drag times that just put up the Nevera vs Plaid last night. The Rimac clocked mid 8s in the high 160s compared to the Telsa low 9s low/mid 150s. The Rimac is stupid fast and stupid priced but those number doe.

Electric cayman. Only a matter of time.

I have no real desire to drive an electric vehicle anytime soon but I've got nothing against them. The problem is that they are going to be government mandated eventually which I do have a problem with.
