re: Would you be irked by your father in law if he did this?

Are you thinking dad taught her some tricks?
Also, OP, it is more simple than you think. He put the money in back then to cover some of her minor expenses. He then paid a few of her bills out of pocket after having already deposited the money. In effect, he gave her the money twice and was just reimbursing himself to bring it back to once.
It was actually closer to $3k but a few spring breaks, bail, those abortions from her underclassman years, and her love of pizza all added up. It is all even now, so it is cool.

If it's HIS money, why are you paying taxes on the interest? Telk the old bastard to pay it himself and send the $200 back.

I have one FIL / money story:
Long story short the FIL paid $750 for something that his daughter and I needed. I promptly gave him the $750 cash days after. Shortly after there was some snafu between the vendor and the credit card company and ultimately he ended up never having to pay anything.
So, he ended up getting $750 from me and he never had to pay for anything. Free money from his young SIL.
He just laughed about it, felt all excited, but never offered to split any with me.

Like someone else said, he could have told y’all he was keeping most of it and sending you some to cover the taxes and then some. Instead he chose to obscure the situation.
I wouldn’t be irked and certainly wouldn’t mention it. His money and his right to handle it however he pleases, but I’d potentially be slightly less trusting of the things he says at least for a little while.

Def Dickmove. Be Leary of him.

I don’t think you should be upset. He doesn’t owe you an explanation. I also bet your retirement plan is dependent on inheritance from him dying. Go make your own a money and quit bitching to your wife about how your FIL controls his own money. He shouldn’t have sent you the $200.

He may have intended to give her the money not realizing how much was there. When he realized thousands of his own money had been sitting in an account for her spring break whoring, he decided to keep it, but gave your needy arse a $200 gift.

I’m confused about this. If he has enough access to withdraw money & close the account, why does your wife have to claim it on her taxes? Why can’t he?

Wish someone would give me $234 bucks out of the blue that they didn’t have to.
Wish even more my parents could have been able to fund an account for me for some expenses during college! Sounds like a damn good father in law.

No. If you like sticking your dick in his daughter, don’t say a damn word. There is no amount of money that is worth the pain you will endure for the rest of your life for being a cheap, petty bastard over this.

Oh, and the thing that my FIL did that irked me was bringing over his new blacklight and shining it around in my office.

He gave the $1800 to Jody to use to take your wife on a cruise.
Where Jody will be banging your wife.
With his dick.

You should tell him you are transferring all of your money there and he should do the same because they are paying 15% on deposits.
