Does anyone know how much revenue the event generates? Say compared to jazz fest or maybe another event around the same size as the game? Would/could the city stop hosting it?

No, the cries of racism would echo for eternity if they did.

What other Louisiana city could compete with hosting the game? If The Super Dome declined to renew, I'm sure Tulane would pick it up.

The BC doesn't have to compare to Jazzfest in order to be a financial success.

After Katrina it was moved to Houston—should have stayed there.

If the superdome stops hosting its because the city wants the game gone. Moving it from the superdome and putting it in the middle of uptown would be even more of a nightmare.

The two teams should make it a home and home series.

I have heard and seen 200,000 and $50 million numbers used over and over but never a source citing a real study as they do for the Superbowl and such.

And I do not trust the attendance numbers. I attended one year where the announced attendance number was 67000 but the stands looked half empty.

I think it's a legitimate question. At what point is it not worth the economic impact?

I don't know the answer, but I'm sure it's a question people smarter than me have contemplated.

I'm smarter than you an it's never occurred to me once.

It is a legit question though.

It was contemplated by the city when Houston tried to get the game. The result was a subsidized game where they virtually give away the Dome and force hotels to cap their rates.

There aren't enough visitors to merit portacans scattered throughout the Quarter.

Twenty years or so ago there was a concerted effort to cancel the game. Low attendance, low spending by the visitors who did come. The kick back from a certain segment of the nationwide minority population was a wonder to behold. Not that they came to the games, but they had ties to the news media.

Since then Essence Fest has grown, and it might have convinced certain visitors to return and spend.

I can't remember which one but Atlanta or Houston made a play for it a few years back, should have let it leave.

Houston and Atlanta have both tried to get the game away from NOLA.

The game and the schools represent a huge source of pride in Black America. No chance a majority black city with black politicians is going to just give it up.

Having said that... I remember when the game regularly packed actual 70K in the stands. The game has suffered just like the vast majority of HBCUs not named Howard have suffered.

I wonder why Shreveport/the Independence Bowl hasn't closed a deal for it.
Murders are already expected in the 318.
