How many people would spend the weekend in the city on that weekend if they did not have to compete with that crowd? How many businesses would remain open for holiday shoppers?

Essence Fest and Bayou Classic are always staples around that time as it's low amount of tourists and it brings in a lot of money.

Essence fest brings in a completely different crowd than the Bayou Classic.

I've been in New Orleans a few times during Essence.. I think I only been to New Orleans once on a BC weekend. If I recall it was the Sunday after.. Had gone to Harrah's, saw people with Southern and Grambling gear on. If there was anything out of the ordinary going on I didn't notice. But I know during Essences they have a bunch of hot black women all around.

I think you are focusing on the wrong thing in terms of different crowds.

Is $250 per visitor a big deal? How does that compare to other events in New Orleans?

And I do not trust the attendance numbers. I attended one year where the announced attendance number was 67000 but the stands looked half empty.

I watch a few minutes several years ago and the TV cameras wouldn't go to the upper 500/600 level and the lower levels weren't near full. Looked a bit more crowded than the R+L Carrier Bowl in New Orleans.

The official attendance numbers were in the low 40's to low 50's for a decade, they have for the past several years amazingly risen to mid 60's. I think the numbers (who knows how many are paid) have been even more inflated recently due to criticism as to the value of the event.

As far as viewing popularity it is no longer broadcast on NBC but some other NBC channel.

The economic numbers thrown around are absurd.

I have a friend that lives in a huge house uptown right off St Charles and they air bnb’d It year before last for $5k a night, 5 night minimum. It has a pool, gated driveway, absolutely beautiful. They did an extensive background check on every single person that was staying there as well as anyone that would be visiting. Most of them were from Florida and there was a few popular music artist.

We gave him some shite but it all turned out well.

You’re right, a totally different crowd

How many actual tickets were sold for the 2019 game?
The Astro Dome in Houston maybe interested in hosting this illustrious event.

Memphis is the perfect city for some type of double-header with this game and a MEAC-pride game.

Like I said. IT is a fair comparison. I did not say they were identical but both reside in the worst cities in the country to live if one wants to avoid murder. Add to that the fact that New Orleans has to deal with issues like large numbers of transients that Shreveport does not.

Biggest net beneficiaries of the game are probably immigrant gas station / convenience store owners.

"Economic impact" - WTF does that even mean?

Talk to me about incremental tax revenue and what that actually buys. I don't care that some Southern alum bought $11 of gas from Arshad, and $4 of that went to Arshad Junior's tuition at Tulane, which paid Jerome $1.19 to sweep the floor and Entergy $0.84 to keep his arse cool in class, which funded a new blah blah blah...

Who. Effing. Cares. About. That.
