Essence Fest gets a lot of undeserved hate here. Most of that crowd are black professionals. You have a few up-to-no-good locals causing a ruckus but they pale in comparison to the shitshow that is Bayou Classic. Seems like thugs from all around the state show up and cause trouble BC weekend.

Never will happen, both the Essence fest and Bayou Classic are huge money making events for the city. Decadence as well, as it not only brings in money but future Tulane students.

Moving it from the superdome and putting it in the middle of uptown would be even more of a nightmare.

As long as they don't move it to Tad Gormley.

I don't care. I'm not gonna be in New Orleans for the Bayou Classic, nor is any of my friends or family.

It was created in 1975 as a Louisiana Superdome event.

My stepdaughter waited tables at various places in the French Quarter the entire time she was in college. According to her nobody that is on wait staff willingly works BC weekend. Little or no tipping was the rule, at better establishments they could down hundreds of dollars in tips compared to a any normal weekend, and the demands on the wait staff were ridiculous. There is a reason so many restaurants "close for renovation" during the BC weekend.
