If any of you work in healthcare, ask your CO's if they came from the Triad Hospital System. If they did, never ever trust them. I've had 4 bosses from that system and they were all dishonest and liars. I thought it was strange and asked a corporate HCA executive about it. He said, "That is the type of person they want...do anything to get ahead personally and professionally."
Personally, had an immediate boss that was just an awful person. We had a very long term janitor have a heart attack and die in the lab. Very nice guy, soft spoken with a heart of gold. After he died the boss told several people he had "embarrassed the lab" by dieing there.

I was just thinking of three 10th Mountain Division Commanders; Hagenbeck, Austin, and Freakley.
Was a company commander in the DISCOM (Pogue Valley Road) 95-97.

MG Burnette was the division commander while I was there. Hagenbeck was the chief of staff at the time. My biggest issue was a sociopath for my battalion commander. Most toxic leader I have ever served with in over 35 years in uniform. Any time I wondered what to do as a senior leader (battalion command, two brigade commands and chief of staff of a medical command) was to do the exact opposite of what he had done.

Micro management. Boss needed extra ordinary control.

Why? Clearly did not see their leadership to develop and grow their people. Rather, saw delivery as paramount. One precluded the other.

Fast forward. Very best boss ever had led by empowering, coaching, and mentoring. Recognized that developing their team to deliver was FAR more effective than being overly focused on the delivery itself.

One is less selfish and the difference.

Key learning:
Being a leader and leadership can be very different things.

My worst boss is also my current boss. He is an extreme micromanager who likes to manage by intimidation. He is a fairly sharp guy, but he hads a management style that has been outdated for 30 years.

Any radio GM with the name Randy should immediately be beaten unconscious. Not sure what it is about that name.

When I taught public school I had a principal who tried to get me to strip search a kid that he thought was in possession of bubble gum. I said no. He tried to have me fired. I found a better job.

Had a woman that would dress you down in a staff meeting or in the hall I front of everyone. To her credit, she gave us a paid vacation day when my daughter was born, but she would talk shite every other day. Needless to say, they aren’t in business anymore

Had a fishing trip on the books at work six weeks before hand. The department head was transferring, and a new manager was making all kinds of changes. A coworker was having none of this and put in his two weeks, new department head lets him go a week into the notice. I get called into his office and he tells me he is going to need me the Friday and possibly part of the Saturday of my trip. I say, I really can't. He says, no it's a done deal, I let your coworker go and you must cover for him. We go back in forth. I final say, are we done, he says yes. I go fishing, he calls me six in the morning asking where are you at. I say frickING FISHING, and hang up. I left six months later, but he never fricked with me again. Heard he was let go about a year later.

Derrick Lirette. Dexter Burris is a close second. Dexter is already dead (heart attack; I didn’t kill him). I’d harm Derrick if I could without being caught.

Current one. Only person he calls by their last name. The rest of the team gets greeted by their first name.

This guy is ex military so I'm not sure if this is a sign of respect or disdain.

After about a month a few were pulled from developers/programmers and made Project managers, Manager of the web development team so that he could cover their deficiencies.

Ah, project managers that come from failed programmer stock, my favorite.

Which reminds me of my worst boss who in a previous life was a project manager. Which I wonder where he learned a lot of it because I think the most he did was on Excel. The man didn't really take morale or other things into account. My favorite being the one-on-one sessions we did with him where you watched him working on something for 15 minutes (probably another spreadsheet, who fricking knows) while you're waiting to get this over with as this a-hole makes empty apologies. I say that because it happened every time as if my time or anyone elses time didn't matter only dickhead. Oh you got family? frick you and your family because I need to show like I give a shite to my boss. It's even better when he wants to hold these near the end of the day because he's "busy".

The man was a poster child for a stereotypical middle manager who reached the zenith of the Peter Principle. Then add to that the micromanagement as an attempt to look like we're supervising. I took a training class he was well aware I was attending and halfway through day one is wondering where I'm at because I was showing as offline on our messenger app.

There are a few more things I could go on about but it was a long time ago. Only time in my career I burned my bridge, thankfully it helped light my way to my next venture.
