Tiger Ryno why do you insist on wendler in every situation? its an advanced program and even wendler himself says there are better programs for somebody just starting lifting.

Nurse please explain why breakfast is more important than any other meal?
FACT: Breakfast is not important and studies on internment fasting prove it over and over. Please don't come in these threads and push bro science bullshite.

For a quick background...I was always in decent shape. I played a ton of tennis my whole life. I was always around 6'0...165. Then, I hit 38 years old. We had our first child and then another a few years later. I was going to work earlier and staying at the office later. The quick and delicious Chicago deep dish slice was a regular in my lunch rotation. The quick couple of pints with coworkers after working a 12 hour day was easy to attend (usually accompanied with some bar food). I obviously have not been playing tennis since then.
Start with your goals. If your goal is to just lose 20 lbs, then calculate your caloric intake needed to maintain your weight, and eat 500-1000 less calories a day.
If your goal is to lose weight and put on muscle, then start with a very basic workout routine and watch youtube videos on form.

OP lets keep it simple for you. Its your first time. Most of the people in this thread have good intentions but are pretty ignorant; not all but most in here.
I would highly suggest you start lifting 3 days a week. Wendler is a good program but not the best for starting. I would suggest you start with the greyskull lp since you are trying to get in better shape. It will give you the flexibility to meet your goals.
here is the book for free
Do the fasted morning walks and the Frequency method body weight exercises if at all possible and the weight will fly off.
Next thing I would do is head over to iifym and plug your stats into their calculator and set your my fitness pal app to correspond to the macros it tells you to eat.
now lift three times a week and meet those macros and watch the weight fall off. Read the iifym Faq also when you have time, it explains flexible dieting.
After you get closer to where you need to be and your progress stalls you can start using more advanced diet tricks like lower carbs, carb cutoffs, back loading carbs, fasting days, etc but until you get down to around 15% bf there is zero reason to do anything other than flexible dieting unless you have a medical condition you didn't mention.

I would stick to 190. Are you athletic build? If you're really 6'0" I think 188-190 is a good weight. 180 is too skinny IMO.

I'm a fat 5'9" 240
I used to train all the time. Don't have much time for it now. Ill start again soon

Yeah After my dad died earlier this year I haven't been able to fully regain control of my eating habits that I once had

i can't say too much. When my wife was pregnant for the first time, I was working full time, going to school full time and building a house. Had zero time to workout and within 9 months ballooned up to 245 lbs at only 5'10. As soon as we finished the house, first thing I did was build a home gym and get that shite off. Felt and looked like shite.

A buddy of mine, who is a big fan of beer, recently wanted to cut weight. He just did 30 days of no alcohol and ran a moderate (4-6 miles) amount 4-5 days a week. That's it. Lost 20lbs in a month.

I've tried them all. Low carb is by far the most effective. Cut the carb as much as you can, especially simple carb like sugar.
I used to think cardio was the only way to shed bodyfat. But you'll lose weight as long as you have calorie deficit. You can lose fat solely through diet alone and cardio is not required. I strongly recommend mainly lifting weight and use cardio as supplement for heart health.

Body by Science
Do the above workout and eat barely any carbs. Easiest way to lose weight and it barely takes any time.
