burn more than you put in it's pretty simple

but if you go on a hardcore caloric deficit you will be one cranky SOB.

Also drink a frick ton of water. Flush your system out. It will help you be a little more flexible with your diet eating foods higher in sodium. Plus you want to be hydrated while working out. If you are thirsty then your already close to not being hydrated enough.

They're in good shape because they treat their bodies like temples

Except for their buttholes. They treat those like sewers.

Yeah I know how to train. I just gotta start off lighter than ever before. I tore my left pec and bicep two years ago and I have right rotator cuff issue as well right now.

Ill be doing a lot of rehab stuff once I start getting back into weight training.

Once I'm done with summer school I want to start relearning judo and jiujitsu

I cant stand the bullshite science either.

I eat two massive meals a day. Lunch and dinner. I do have a protein shake after morning workout, but that's it.

I cant stand this idiotic bullshite pushed based on nothing but pass it down the line knowledge.

half of this thread is complete horse shite advise and her post was just the icing on the cake.

its like people believe we can digest a large meal in seconds. The breakfast bullshite is almost as bad as when people say you can't absorb more than a certain number of grams of protein in a sitting. Really?

'm fed up and need to lose some weight. A little background...I never was the most athletic guy. I grew up in the Midwest and now live in Chicago. I'm early 40's and as every Midwestern...I love beer, deep dish pizza, and cheap Chinese food. That said...I'm not "too far" out of shape. I'm right around 6'0 and 200 pounds. I'm not in terrible shape...just soft and pudgy (especially in the midsection, love handles, and thighs).

I'm asking for a little help. I never really had to work out/watch what I eat until now. With my wife popping out our two children in the past 4 years and with work....any thought of the gym and what I ate went out the back door.

Can some suggest some pointers on ideas to lose weight? I'd like to drop at least 20 pounds. Weight lifting and cardio? Should I do low weight, high reps or vice versa? What's the best cardio machines I should get on? I'm pretty new to the gym and I'd like to make the best of it. I know results aren't made overnight, but I'm sick of not feeling as well as I did before and my clothes fitting tight.

Also, any basic food tips?

If you are new to weight lifting and the gym scene, join a gym like Planet Fitness or Anytime Fitness that is more relaxed but that varies by location so use the free trial to see if you like it and it is convient. Some of them also offer a free trainer for a period of time that will help teach you how to work out. Be sure you tell that you want to lose weight and not to get buff. There is abig difference to the approach and alot of trainers just try to focus on getting you buff.

If you want to do it on your own here is what you do
1. Find a gym
2. Download a workout app and an BMR app. Most workout apps have beginner worouts that will help you ease into it. The BMR app will give a rough estimate of how many calories you burn. Then adjust your diet to have about a 500 calories deficit/day and you will lose about a lb/week. There are roughly 3500 calories in a pound of fat FYI.
3. Do the weight loss workouts
4. Do a minimum of 20 minutes of cardio/day. I prefer the ellipitcal but that is because a treadmill hurts my bad knee from football.
5. Eat healthy. If you do not know what that entails and like southern food I suggest reading Slim Down South. The first few chapters are about adjusting the southern diet and eating styles to be healthy. I thought it laid it out in basic common sense terms but then again I am over qualified (BS in kinesiology, minor in nutrition, Masters in Medical Science, and current medical student). There are also some pretty good recipes in there. LINK
6. Cut back on the beer and junk food intake. Try to limit yourself to 2 beers/day and limit binge drinking. Also cook your own food or have your wife cook your meals. Limiting eating out, take out, and fast food saves money and is healthier.
7. Go get a physical from your doctor and try to get one atleast every 2-3 years or whatever he recommends. You want to stay healthy and enjoy your kids and not the grave or hospital bed.
8. Do everything in moderation
9. Bang your wife often it is good for the heart and since this it the OT PIIHB and post pics.
