I can do a work/home split. Basically leave early, finish from the house. But I’m new, not pushing that just yet. This may work though

if it's truly negotiable, think of what you're willing to give up to get something you want. Maybe you'll need to take one something additional?

There's something you want from them so you'll have to expect to give them something.

Teach your kids how to act up in school in order to get after-school detention. Save $600 per month. Win/win

Do the math to see if it would be more affordable for the wife to stay home. Bear in mind you will be paying for someone to watch them on holidays and in the summer.

If it absolutely cannot work, see if her employer will let her work mommy hours (get off in time to pick them up).

Nah, she makes too much for that. I’d rather eat the $500
But it may not be long before she takes a step back and finds something that helps her enjoy her kids more. I’d give up $20k or so for it. I’m sure she would as well. Soon

Shouldn’t be hard, I spent a lot of my time there

While this is probably the best case scenario, with the cost of living today, that's almost impossible...

It is very possible. You just have to accept that you aren't both driving Tahoes. You will have to live on less money.

So we’re paying ~$500/mth for them to take the bus there, wait for 20 minutes & I pick them up.

Why not just let them stay until the 5:30 or whatever time it ends, and go kick back until then?

Assuming it isn't far from your house... you can go home for a couple of hours, hit up happy hour, run errands, etc.

I own my own business and my wife worked with a different company. She basically got the insurance and doubled up our income. When our oldest (3 yrs apart) kid was in 2nd grade, we had a teacher who literally didn't teach the kids. She was pregnant and stuck the kids on the computer all day while she had quiet time. We went to the principal and he said couldn't do anything because the problem would solve itself after her baby was born. So that pushed us. We worked all that year doing the Dave Ramsey thing of getting out of debt.

My wife quit her job and took a parapro job at a private school who gave us a huge discount on the kid's education. Those were during the early years of their education. She was around for them and it helped me out of having to run everywhere so I could do my business. Once my oldest went into High School, she went back to work at the previous company and we continued paying for private school.

She gets up early and goes to work around 6 and I take the youngest to school now (he's almost driving age). She gets off work around 2:30 and picks up kid and then puts in some time at home. That's how we did it when they were little as well. For sickness, we alternated and I always picked them up if called since I was the closer one.

If you work to get out of most of your debt, then your options increase.

I thought he was asking for advice on paying for 30 minutes of daycare.. Didn't realize he was asking for advice on how to get out of paying it altogether That seems like something only he can answer himself. We don't know his life/schedule/work situation. Weirdly specific thing to ask the OT about, and looks like he gave himself his own advice already without needing the thread.

My best friend/coworker's little girl gets sent to aftercare automatically by school staff after a certain time if she hasn't made it there yet, so she always gets her money's worth and hits up an errand or happy hour or even just goes home to get started on dinner and whatnot, rather than pay the full flat rate for only 15m. It is only a few minutes from her house to aftercare, though.

Lol. Yeah, I’m trying to get rid of that shite. If they stayed til 5:30, Id feel better about it. By 5:30, I’m already paying the other aftercare…sports.

my wife and I are both teachers and we are foster parents. We have 4 children currently and it gets hectic at time but the time off we have together for holidays etc recharges our batteries and is worth it.

Ah, I see. So they're going to aftercare, being picked up, and then being brought to sports. Yeah, I def see the frustration there.

Wake up about 645, think about killing myself, realize that would be too good a thing for the wife. Go make coffee.

Make sure the squirts are up and getting ready by 7. From 715-730, I will flip on a kids show.

730, load them in the car and drive them to school, which is in my neighborhood. I return home by 745 and prepare for my work day.

Noon, nanny arrives: cleans up, folds laundry, organizes.

3pm, nanny goes and gets kids, takes them to after school activities, etc.

6pm, wife and I are done working, nanny leaves—I make dinner, play with kids for a bit, they’re in bed by 830.

Rinse, repeat

I don’t mind the running around for sports. We limit it & it’s not crazy. He only does jiu jitsu & we go together. Daughter plays soccer which is only about 6 weeks long, twice a year and gymnastics that’s only once a week
