For most of the history of mankind, women have been treated like pieces of property and were given away by their parents to men at a very young age.

Off topic, when I became single, I realized how many toys the average woman kept in their nightstand, and I was legitimately surprised and realized I dug it. I seriously made into my 50's and a long marriage before I got the prevalence of that and how it could be incorporated into awesome sex. Women kind of need to walk men through it with intention, imho. Imagine my surprise when I realized sex was hotter now than when we all looked like hard bodied models. The timeline y’all are talking about is the past 6,000 or so years minus this past century when most monarchies went away and royal families weren’t using offspring as bargaining chips.
What about the literal hundreds of thousands of years before civilization and political machinations? If we are talking evolutionary we have to go back to before the copper and bronze ages, much further back.

Yes, to get them off the payroll.
But my guess is the parents would attempt to find the best available mate for their daughter in terms of his ability to provide for her. But that choice would be limited by their own social status.
Remember, until very recently, the primary purpose of a woman was to be a mother to a man's children, and then become a caretaker for the husband as he grew older.
At the upper levels of society, daughters were used to merge wealthy families and consolidate power. Think European royalty over the past 1000 years.

Who knows? I don't have a PhD in anthropology.
I have no idea how much choice a woman had in a mate that far back. I'm guessing very little. I'm pretty sure dominant males in a tribe probably got to choose which young girls they wanted to mate with. I doubt the young girl had any opportunity to be selective.
