I recently accidentally left a box of half eaten gas station fried chicken in my truck for 3 days and I guarantee that it was not edible when I threw it out

I have 400 pound barrel of rotten cheese trimmings that I use for catfish bait. When you find a stack of processed cheese slices in there they are not rotten.

And yet, I'm craving a fried catfish plate right now.

But at least twice a year, I get this weird urge for pizza hut. But I feel terrible afterwards.

I've certainly noticed this kind of thing as well. I'm not sure what the hell is being put in foods, but I feel really bad when I eat food from fast food restaurants or even grocery stores.

I can make a burrito bowl at home and feel good. Eat one at Chipotle and I feel bloated, queasy, and lethargic. They're about the same size bowls with the same kind of ingredients.

I noticed this too when I ate cake made at Walmart at my parents' house. Make a cake at home? I'm okay. Walmart? Awful.

I don’t know how to make fried potatoes not eventually rot. I’m not aware there’s a way to make them non-biodegradable.

I don't want fries an hour after they cool. Imagine fries sitting in an unrefrigerated pantry.

both pictures the burger looks exactly the same the difference was the wrapper of one had started to deteriorate before the burger.

High-sodium + low moisture = lasts a long time before decomposing.

Experiment for the gimps-

Get a fresh potato from the store. Slice a piece off. Deep fry it to sterilize it. Coat it in salt. Put in a jar. You don't even need a lid. It will be there a very very long time.

Same works with most carb products and meats.

After the fries are cut, they get covered in sugar so they are all the same color. Then, they’re coated in sodium acid pyrophosphate to keep them from turning gray when frozen.

Thats why places like five guys or super chix is so much better, they cut them in store.

People 100 years ago: We need a way to keep food from spoiling, there is so much food waste!

People today: this food that won't spoil should be thrown away!

When I toured Stonewall Jackson's house in Lexington, the tour guide asked us to look around the kitchen and guess which item was authentic from the period. Everyone guessed the table, the stove, etc. Nope, it was the ham hanging in the corner.

“Don’t turn to mush” != “Don’t go bad”

She needs to eat that stuff of she wants to prove a point.
