I own an 80 pound golden retriever and a friend of mine owns a 70 pound blue pit. If needed I could overpower my golden pretty easily. My buddy's pit is a different story though. Pits are crazy strong for their size.

Last year my parent's outdoor cat was killed by two stray pitbulls. A week later one of the two pits bit the neighbor's young son in the arm requiring 14 stitches. Four days after that they came back again and my father quickly disposed of the two with his AR.

Then that isn't much pit in it. It's amazing how many people label mastiffs, canes and American bulldogs as pits. Unless under extreme circumstances, pit bulls will not weigh over 80 pounds.

Stephens had extensive injuries to her chest, arms and face. NBC12 asked if the bite marks were consistent with dogs or a bigger animal.

"The medical examiner in his preliminary talk with our deputies made it pretty clear that it was not a large animal, because the bite wounds on her head did not penetrate her skull," says Sheriff Agnew.

Investigators are also giving insight in the state of the dogs prior to Stephens' death.

"The dogs were a little bit neglected towards the end," says Sergeant Mike Blackwood.

He says the dogs were staying on the father's property, but Stephens did not live there full time. He says the animals were kept outside in the cold.

"She would come home maybe five times to her father's house a week on average and take the dogs out," says Blackwood. "And they became more isolated where the only contact they had was with each other and it was less and less human contact."

Friends say Stephens raised the dogs most of their lives. Both loved ones and the sheriff's office confirm these were not fighting dogs.

Yup. There are a thousand other breeds of dog in the world. Why choose the one that has shown to be unhinged?

When I take my dogs out for a walk, I pack heat because there are some chained up pits on my walking route.

My neighbor has a pit that is intimidated by my Aussie Shepherd. The prior pit, Gambino, got off his chain all the time and was a mellow dog. When I let my Aussie out to go on a copperhead patrol, she first runs big loops to scout out the ravine adjacent to my house (our street dead ends at a ravine). She'd fly by Gambino and he'd watch her go by, then shake his head as if to say "WTF."

But yes most are in the 50-70 range for sure.

Please tell me those awful creatures were put down.
