That's how it is in Houston. If the pit mauls another dog to death, they quarantine the dog for a week and then the owner gets it back.
If it harms a human, they take the pit on the spot to be put down.

Seems like there should be atleast five other breeds before Husky. Unless they mean fatalities from overwhelming adorable-ness.

I have no use for pit bulls or their owners in denial. Neighbor's PB killed my dog on my side door step when I let him out to pee. Mine was a dachsund - took about 30 sec to rip him literally in half.

Best duck retriever I ever owned...he was strong though. I let him roam free since I lived in the middle of nowhere. He would roam the woods killing all kinds of shite...once even killed a small 60lb doe and drug her into the yard

The American Staffordshire is the same as the American Pitbull Terrier. The term pitbull refers to multiple breeds and includes the APBT.

ETA: your dog may have killed a dog in a fight but it wasn't an apbt. It was a mutt that you misidentified.

No. They came from the same original stock but once separated, the different breeders bred for different standards. The AmStaff breeders for show dogs and the APBT breeders continued breeding game dogs. These game dog breeders were very strict on temperament and culled any dog that showed signs of human aggression, which is why true apbt dogs have passed temperament testing at extremely high rates.

The AKC wanted the money that UKC was making by registering the APBT. So AKC went to one of the top bloodlines of the UKC APBT and used those Colby dogs as the first American Staffordshire registered with the AKC. AKC used only UKC APBT as their foundation. All they did was change the breed name. Just because they only used certain ones to register doesn’t change the fact that all they did was change the breeds name. No where did AKC use any other breed/dog to come up with their Amstaff. So yes, they are the same. I have owned dogs that were registered with both AKC and UKC.
I agree that true APBT are great dogs and not what we see today. People let emotions drive their opinions of these dogs. Even based of the loose definition of a pitbull these days, less than .5% account for the dog bite statistics. Yet people want to condemn the whole slew of pitbulls.

but we'll agree to disagree, as my belief is that breeding for certain traits in the AmStaff, over time, changed them greatly from where they originated.
Another example of this is coonhounds. The English(redtick), the Walker and the Bluetick were once all known as English coonhounds. A group of men that liked the tri color dogs bred and culled until they had what we know as the treeing walker. Same thing for today's Bluetick. The English breeders never changed their ways and so today, English coonhounds still throw all 3 color variations.
But you and I are at least on the same side of the big issue.
