Wind Blowing Out of Uranus Makes It Hard to Probe, NASA Complains

Scientists have found that a "rare intense wind event" during NASA's Voyager 2 flyby of Uranus in 1986 may have seriously messed with our understanding of the planet.

Well that stinks.

If I had a nickel for every time I've experienced this phenomenon, I would . . .
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID !!

There are several ways to pronounce "Uranus", and none of them are necessarily incorrect. They are, however, appropriate in different settings. If you don't want people to laugh, pronounce the name the way that astronomers and physicists pronounce it: "Yurr-en-us"

Just rename that stupid planet already.

Urmomsanus is much more hospitable, ftr.

So science thought it knew everything about Uranus based off one fly by? And now we’re shocked to discover there could be more to the story!?!?

Planet a-hole

Sounds like a headline from a weak imitation of The Onion.

So no, it’s the only fun planet we have. They stole Pluto from us, we’re not letting them take this one.

KEEP YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF URANUS!!!

If your planet is hot enough you don’t even care if the wind is blowing.

The event compressed the planet's magnetosphere, they found, causing it to deform into a significantly asymmetrical shape that appeared to lack plasma.
"We postulate that such a compression of the magnetosphere could increase energetic electron fluxes within the radiation belts and empty the magnetosphere of its plasma temporarily,"

Now I feel really dumb.
Of course the Magnetosphere was fried by the Sun bombarding it with solar flares from a billion miles away.

I had a strong wind event out of my own anus this morning. Next thing you know my whole room stunk pretty bad.

So a planet had a flatulent attack during our flyby in 1986.
We have revisited Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto with other missions, why no Uranus missions did we spend too much in the Ukraine.

quote:no LOL. What little they thought they knew appears to be unreliable. V2 flew by at like 40000 mph. A purposeful visit to Uranus similar to the ones done at Saturn and Jupiter would be much more involved.

There was a strong wind out of my anus beneath the nice sheets of bedrüm this morning.
An intrepid heroine (who had the blankets pulled over her head) reported the winds were toxic and smelled of onion and garlic.
