Shatner seems to be doing extremely well for 95 years old.

I honestly didn’t realize that he is not from the US!

His superpower is that he stays busy. He sees a blank spot on his calendar and he probably sends out a sternly-worded text or email to his staff to the tune of, "Hey guys, why am I looking at an empty hour here at 2:00pm tomorrow? I could be making a media appearance, podcast, talking to someone about a new script, idea or even talking to someone about an appearance in a show or movie. So, what I'll be forced to do is work on the current book, which is fine, but let's not let that happen again too soon, okay? I have plenty of travel time to work on this book. Thanks."

"Who's a better captain - Kirk or Picard?"

"Kirk."

Truth. Last I saw he was doing a speaking tour, comic cons, and commercials.

People dont realize how much having a job and purpose actually increases your lifespan. It's observable in both humans and animals.

Biologically, once your body/brain feels like it has no more utility, it starts to break down faster. Retiring early and sitting around all day is likely punching your ticket to an early grave, or at the very least, a misery of health issues.

I think this is generally true. My father-in-law was an exception. Retired in his early 50s. Despite being in my 20s then, I'm still one of the smartest MFers you'll ever meet, I told him, "You're going to run out of money before you run out of life." He told me many years later that I was spot on. ( )

However, he had another "job." Taking care of my mother-in-law who was impossible to please. That kept him going in relatively good health (he did have a 18-month battle with kidney cancer in his 60s) until she passed. He was still in good health until about the last 6 months and passed at 80.

Longer ago than that, but not very long ago.

All these Canadians who move to the US know that they have it WAY better over here although 90% of them would never admit it openly.

I'm not sure about this. Animals in captivity generally live longer than in the wild. And I think the ones in captivity don't really have anything to do. They just lay around in a cage all day.
