People did not expect it to built a second time, but it was. Honestly surprised it hasn’t happened yet.
I spent some time this year reading and studying the history of Jerusalem...and man, it is some crazy stuff.

Why haven't we had more biblical stories/books, etc. in 2000 years? You'd figure with all the writing that happened at the beginning of time*, it should have continued in giving us our guidance to find the way.

It's an interesting thought. I know there are NPOs whose sole focus is collecting and organizing the exact building materials in the exact sizes along with collecting various artifacts, etc. so that it can be immediately constructed as soon as the dome is destroyed. They are literally just waiting for a zealot to bomb it.
ETA: and yea, destroying the Dome of the Rock would bring the entire Muslim world crashing down on Isreal for letting it happen.

Synagogues - not temples. There was only one Jewish temple and it was destroyed in 70CE by the Romans.
The Shriners have quite a few of them.
