‘Irrational’ would be staying in a place where you’re constantly flooding and having to rebuild, inflicting that type of emotional distress on your kids (if you have them), or hell, just on yourself.. There comes a point of diminishing returns, whether it be BR, Denham Springs, or NOLA- people can only take so much before they pull up stakes.

What I mean by that, is moving doesn't all of a sudden mean you're exempt from natural disasters. They can happen anywhere at any time. We have had a bad run here recently, but things will average out.

I can tell you that I won't rebuild. I'm done if it happens again.

For a lot of us that got caught without flood insurance in 2016, we're saddled with debt from that flood and it'd be really hard to move while upside-down on a home. Plus, kids, careers, and family.

For me personally, I would love to move to Austin-RR but I have a job situation and connections here in Baton Rouge that would be difficult to replace, given my lack of social skills.

We're still not finished rebuilding, so flooding again would be absolutely demoralizing even though we have flood insurance now.

You'd be crazy to rebuild again. If it floods once, it'll flood again. I couldn't live with that fear always lurking.

But people will do it because they are buying in these subdivisions that were cane fields and floodways from the get go.

We got 5' last time. We have all of our receipts and records already loaded in the truck. We took pics and videos of everything we own. We put as much as we could in the attic and will take as much as we can with us in our trucks. Yes, we will rebuild a second time. This time I am adding network cable to the whole damn house! A port at every electrical outlet and wired for speakers throughout. We will also be putting in rockwool insulation this time.

While your preparation is very smart, insurance will still find a way to screw you over, even with the receipts and video. However, I hope you don’t have to find this out again soon.

Stadium location isn't the problem. It's the loss of population and lack of local corporate sponsors. If they don't come back those two sports franchises won't hang around.

I wasnt serious.

However, San Antonio wont get the Saints for the same reason they didnt get them after Katrina- because Jerry Jones wont allow another team into what he considers Cowboy Country... With another Katrina -type biblical flood, I’m guessing a lot of the NOLA population will relocate to Baton Rouge.. the Baton Rouge Saints ? St. George Saints?

I’d be a lot more worried about the Pels.. Prior to three or four months ago, i wouldnt have cared too much, but Zion has revitalized my interest in the NBA.. i’d hate to think what would happen to that team if the City went under.

I owned a townhouse in BR and it flooded a year after I bought it. I went through three floods in five years and I finally gave the place up. I refused to make anymore payments on that piece of crap that I bought. The mortgage company understood the crap that I was going through and my refusal to pay anymore house notes was fine with them. I got lucky that time but like the arse that I am, I bought a house in Denham Springs. I live in the Willows subdivision and I haven't flooded yet. Two years ago the subdivision flooded but my house and the neighbor across the street didn't flood. The water came up to the door but it didn't come inside. I have a terrible feeling that my luck is about to run out. I wouldn't wish a flood on anyone.
Even though you repair your house after the flood, your house just doesn't feel the same. BTW. when I moved out of that townhouse twenty years ago, that place hasn't flooded since I left.
