Is this true? The Bear and Coach Mac of LSU were big time drinking buddies.

re: ADT Salesman

I have ADT and I'm satisfied with it. I wasn't home but my nephew set it off. The police were there in five minutes. One day I was fooling with the control panel. I had no idea I set something off, but ADT called me to make sure I was okay. I'm just glad that I never really had to use it but I do feel better knowing that they do what they claim to do. Some of my neighbors have the company that has the orange sign. They all seem content with that company too.

re: Well it isn’t the 90’s. We were great at baseball
Posted by avondale88 on 4/3/21 at 7:06 pm to Weaver
They weren't good in the 70's and hardly anybody went to the games. I was at LSU in the early 70's and baseball was a sport that nobody thought about. Football was always the number one sport and basketball was good because LSU had The Pistol. Baseball was lucky to have 50 fans at a game. SEC wise I remember Miss. State to be the school that cared for the sport of baseball. More students went to wrestling matches than they did for baseball. I can't even remember the name of the baseball coach back then. I think Press Robertson was the tennis coach. Many of us who lived on campus never attended a baseball game. We went to all home football games and many basketball games. Baseball was never brought up in a conversation about sports. I started at LSU in '69 and finished in '72 and me and my friends never went to a baseball game. Football games were great. You entered sober but left TS drunk. The bad thing about sneaking booze in the stadium was that you always seemed to be sitting near a student who couldn't hold their liquor and started puking their guts out.
re: The Intimidator - Time to cover it up.
Posted by avondale88 on 4/1/21 at 10:43 am to RealityTiger
Who in the hell does a sign intimidate? I honestly don't believe that a sign can intimidate anyone. Do all of the championship banners at Bryant Denny intimidate anyone? When I lived in Alabama one of my neighbors played for the tide during the sixties and he was coached by The Bear. He used to tell me that when Mike was parked outside of the visitors locker room, they used to scream at Mike and poke things at his travel cage before the team ran out onto the field. Does that sound like they were intimidated by a live tiger? So how in the crap does a sign intimidate anyone?

They were selling them in the mid seventies. My brother tried to talk me into buying one. I had no interest in buying an apartment. Back in those days the area was real nice. Like another poster said when section 8 came in that area was destroyed. That whole area looks like a third world country.

re: ALBERTSONS baton rouge...college drive
Posted by avondale88 on 3/25/21 at 10:14 pm to fatboydave
They closed the one in Denham Springs. I was living out of town when that place opened and when it closed. Winn Dixie was there before Albertsons. I never asked but I know why it probably closed. It was right next to the hood. Rodeo Drive is just a hop away. I can't imagine any business wanting to locate there. A business probably loses money in that area. When it was Winn Dixie some black chick tried to take a white lady's purse. The white woman screamed and the black chick was unable to take the purse. Two white dudes came and restrained the black chick. TBH it looked like the guys were roughing her up before the cops came. I could tell that they were twisting her arms. IMO that thief got exactly what she deserved. The sad thing is that thief probably went to another store and pulled the same crap. I bet Albertsons closed because of crap like that. You put a business close to the hood and you're just asking for trouble. The people in the hood wonder why another business won't open up there. I bet that in a couple of years that building will be demolished. McDonalds seems to be doing well in that area.

When I lived in Montgomery I never knew that Alabama was a state that had so many tornados. I hated when those sirens went off because it meant that a tornado was either seen or approaching. One poor woman lost her life when a tornado hit her mobile home. She was getting ready to go inside when the tornado got her. If I lived in a mobile home and heard that siren my butt would be in the car driving to God knows where. Those mobile home parks need to build something where people can go when those sirens go off. Doesn't north Louisiana get more tornados than south Louisiana?

Freshman at LSU lived on campus and like many in the dorm did not have much money. Some of us went to the store and bought cheap wine. We bought Boones Farm and a wine called Red Rooster. I drank some Boones Farm but I really drank that Red Rooster. RR didn't taste like wine. It tasted something like Vodka. I drank too much RR and puked in the car and in the parking lot near the Old Jerry Lewis cinema they had near campus. To this day I can't drink wine. At Church they use real wine. I just take the bread. A wine drunk has to be the worst. I never had such a horrible hang over as I did the next morning. Wine and I don't mix. Cheap wine like Boones Farm strawberry will definitely shift your guts in a different direction.

I'm a white male. What in the crap do I need to feel guilty about? I wasn't around for slavery and I'll be damn if I'm responsible for what my ancestors did. I didn't have anybody picking cotton in my yard and I sure didn't own a plantation. Some of you people need to read what the Japanese did to their prisoners who were Chinese. They also tried to eliminate the Koreans. Every race of human being is responsible for doing something to another race. If any ethnic group needs to be pissed off in this country then it is the native American. Their country was stolen from them and they also had to endure torture. Go find a book that describes the details on how the white Europeans tortured the native American. Did any of you know that when an important member of a tribe was captured the soldiers would cut off the male's genital sack and dry it out and then use it for a tobacco pouch.

I could give a crap what a [per5son believes but I just have one question, what the hell is magic underwear? I never heard anything about magic underwear. Oh, and to a previous poster, the Baptist religion is a Protestant religion. If you want to see a religion that hasn't changed then you need to check out that Armenean(sp) on Florida Blvd. I have a friend that goes there. From what she told me the Church sounds like it's a Orthodox Church.

I lived in Alabama for ten years and I never had a bad experience while living there. I lived in Montgomery and Alex City. The people that I met were polite. The Alabama and Auburn fans that I met never mentioned a thing about LSU. Besides Auburn, the only school Bama fans talked about was Tennessee. The Auburn people hate Georgia and talk about them when not talking about Bama. I never heard any hatred thrown LSU's way. The only thing that I ever heard about LSU was how they love to tailgate and how good their food is. LSU is not on anybody's mind. Do you people realize how bad you make LSU look with your stupid posts about Bama? Their fans laugh at us and say that we want another school to hate us so bad. A friend of mine who is a big Bama fan claims that for six years straight Tiger Droppings always had a post saying something about Bama. They tell me that if we want a rival so bad then we need to resume playing Tulane.

Posted by avondale88 on 3/13/21 at 6:53 pm to Wolfhound45
Do any of you recall the story about the light across the river from Baton Rouge? Story went something like if you stood looking at the light it would just stay there but if approached it, it would disappear. I never went to look at it but it was something that some guys claimed to see during my early years at LSU. Some people said that it was swamp gas and others claimed that it was something supernatural. The crap that you believed when you were young. Anybody remember Count Macabre(sp) and Doctor Shock who were on local TV stations?

My older used to hang out at Bert's Cameras & Records all the time at the Delmont Village location. That was during the early 70's.
re: Lent Question - Alligator Meat
Posted by avondale88 on 3/7/21 at 6:51 pm to Bjorn Cyborg
You must have never attended a Catholic school. In elementary school they drilled into our heads that if you knowingly ate meat on a Friday then it is a mortal sin and if you die before you went to confession then to Hell you would go. Now purgatory was another matter. It was a place where you suffered for a little while and after you suffer, you would go to Heaven. Now let's talk about Limbo. It was a place where un baptized babies went. They would be happy but they would never see the face of God. Just recently the Catholic Church did away with Limbo. They won't do away with purgatory because purgatory is a money maker. You have to pay to have a mass said for a deceased soul. Don't tell me that I'm full of crap because for one, my mother spent a lot on having masses said for my deceased brother. I was an altar boy when I had to learn all of that Latin. Back in those days the priest didn't say mass facing the people. Vatican Council brought about the changes. Limbo isn't in the Bible and neither is purgatory. After being fed all of that crap in school I now understand how communism worked on the people it controlled and how Hitler brain washed his followers into believing what he said. I left the Catholic religion fifteen years ago and I'm glad that I did. I now belong to a religion that sticks to what Jesus taught. I wonder how many souls are currently burning in hell for knowingly eating meat on a day of fasting.

One woman survived the jump from that building in New Orleans. The women who had to jump were in the beauty parlor when the fire broke out. My aunt was friends with one of the ladies who jumped to her death.

I think about them too. I just wished that I didn't take a friend's advice and watched those jumpers and the last messages some of the victim's families recorded. I read that it took 8 seconds for the jumpers to hit the ground. Eight freaking seconds is a long time when you are jumping to your death.

Bama is definitely number one in two things. The first thing that they excel at is sexual perversion and the second thing is destroying property. Bama is still the undisputed champ at being gay. A grown middle aged Bama fan rubbing his junk on a passed out kid and killing trees that are over one hundred years old. Bama is the undisputed champ of all things that are perverted. Fans of other schools beware, never order iced or hot tea in the state of Alabama. You might get more than you bargained for. Sick arse School that promotes sick arse fans. How did your teabagger like spending a night in a Louisiana jail? Roll Bag Roll

Zero. I was never a coffee drinker but I definitely drink more than my share of soft drinks. I drink about twelve or 13 cans a day. I don't want to hear the crap that I'm killing myself because I'm already a senior citizen.
re: Imagine seeing this outside your window on an airplane

That wasn't a movie. That was an episode on the Twilight Zone. It aired last week. Shatner is on a plane with his wife. He sees a being on the wing of the plane. Nobody else can see it. It ends with Shatner being in a straight jacket and being sent back to the nut house. He was on the plane with his wife because he was just released from the nut house. They thought that he snapped so back he goes.
re: Teacher sounds off on school board’s $5 million dollars cubicles in classrooms
Posted by avondale88 on 2/15/21 at 7:11 pm to TexasTiger89
Here is a thought for everyone in general. If an ordinary person wanted to run for a school board position he/she can do so. The person doesn't need a high school diploma to run for a school board position. The person can have a second grade education and still run. This person sits on a school board and tells college educated teachers how to teach and how to maintain discipline in their classrooms. A person without an education can tell a college graduate how to perform their daily duties. I have a college degree but you won't find me sitting on some medical board telling doctors about the latest drug findings or how to operate. I'm not qualified to tell doctors how to perform their duties yet a person with no education can tell a certified teacher how to perform their duties? Thank God that uneducated Joe Blow can't sit on a medical board. Why can Joe Blow dictate to a teacher with multiple degrees how to perform their job?
