The funds were dispersed by Wells Fargo based on the percentage of completion. I didn't just get a check for the full amount.

Or just say frick it and just leave south Louisiana?

I would advise them to stay where they are. Rebuild the houses. Do whatever you have to do.....but don't leave. If anything disasters tend to cause people to form strong bonds in their communities. You learn to rely on each other and in the act of doing that barriers come down.

Louisiana is a wonderful state with good people and a great culture. Sure they have hurricanes, but where you going to go where there isn't natural disasters? Take it from someone who left (job demand) stay where you're at, rebuild your homes if necessary and go to Church and pray. Then help your neighbor when he needs help and immerse yourself in your community. Make it a better place to live and raise a family.

Oh and by the way.....learn how to barter. Trust me you'll need that skill later when this country craters because the politicans in Washington betrayed us and gives all our money to foreigners (oh wait a minute they already doing that).

As you were.

My ex and her mother live in Central, got a nice two story in Carmel Acres. House never flooded as long as I knew (this going back to the 90's, I honestly don't know anything about 83. It might have, but I don't remember that being the case for that area back then).

She got about 7 ft in 2016, and shitty contractors afterwards. Lost most personal belongings. They are still doing things like finishing putting up the shoe molding and trim, things like that.

That's right over by the Comite, which is predicted to have a higher crest than 2016. I honestly don't know what they would do if it floods again.

Irrational’ would be staying in a place where you’re constantly flooding and having to rebuild, inflicting that type of emotional distress on your kids (if you have them), or hell, just on yourself.. There comes a point of diminishing returns, whether it be BR, Denham Springs, or NOLA- people can only take so much before they pull up stakes.

If people continue to be dumb enough to rebuild in areas that constantly flood the insurance companies should begin denying any coverage or the govt should rezone it or something.

Flood money was paid to Wells Fargo and me jointly since they still owned the mortgage. Checks required Wells Fargo and my signatures which they hold funds in escrow and disbursed after inspection. Some mortgage companies turned all funds over directly to mortgage customer but WF does not.

How far away would they have to move to be 100 feet above sea level?

What an odd reason to stick around in a place where you've lost your home and possessions due to flooding more than once. "Yeah, all my shite has been destroyed and I've had to start over twice, but so has everyone around me so now we're all good friends!"

I'm not saying one should stay or should move, that's entirely personal. I just think that's a screwy reason to choose to stay.

They've signed...they're saying I've gotten enough money already to be more complete than I am. Problem is I'm at 90% per my adjusters line items using basic math, the last inspection from them states I'm at 68%. They will not give me a copy of their inspection to see what they are saying I've not done for me to dispute it and they won't come out to inspect again until I've made more "progress". Which basically is them saying finish your house out of your own pocket then when you get to 100% they'll release the rest of my money. BassfrickingAckwards!

And on top of it all I'm separated from my wife and not living in the home at the time. All of this will have to wait until the divorce is complete. Truth be told I was kind of pulling for another flood to wash the fricker away. But I'd feel bad for my neighbors if the neighborhood did flood again. Everybody's been through enough already.
