Will "Learn to Weld" become the new "Learn to Code" with AI coming for the coding jobs?

Fixing all the shite AI broke. Good coders aren't going anywhere.

I am thinking no more than 20% of the current programmers will be needed in 5 years
and I think I am being generous

AI will have us living in the dark ages, medieval style.

Don’t care. Staying unemployed until Universal Income turns me into an OT balla.

Because AI will need them

AI will take the welding jobs much faster than other blue collar occupations

AI changes how we code not the need to code. It's not like AI is going to just go out and start writing stuff for you. Someone is still in the driver's seat.
I can see diminished capacity, but certainly not cutting 80% of jobs. It's just going to create jobs in other spaces, such as prompt engineering.

AI may cut down entry level coding jobs, but even that might be short lived as it will cut off the pipeline in training.
I am already seeing this play out in real-time. Hiring of entry level computer science is starting to pick up again. As near term alignment of goals and reality for AI coding is nowhere close to replacing basically any human.
At best it is replacing the hobbyist,

My 14 y/o already knows how to weld. He built this for his eagle scout project.

You are either in denial or fundamentally do not understand the changes coming.
Prompt engineering? Seriously? For what, about 3 months.

Blindly trusting AI's coding ability is dangerous. But I see it happening. The younger groups of developers are relying on it entirely too much.

Production line welding is definitely over. Im not sure fabrication will be easily replaced.

Robots can weld so much better than you or I.

Is this today's circle jerk doomcasting thread?
Just checking.
