The mandatory evacuation order remains in effect this morning. The fire is now 85% contained and two Blackhawk helicopters are enroute with water drops. The fire did cross over Highway 27 last night but responders were able to keep any structures from being damaged so no sturcture loss and no injuries. The fire is still in the general area north of Singer. Forestry will be concentrating on the area where the fire crossed over Highway 27 last night north of Newlin Cemetary Rd. Highway 110 between Singer and Merryville is open but Highway 27 south of Ball Rd. Is still closed at this moment.
There is a new fire on the East side of the parish on Tom Campbell Rd and Larry Bushnell Rd that Fire District 3 worked on and has it contained. Approximately 8 acres were burned. There are currently 51 Singer area residents without power but BECi is aware enroute to address the issue.
There are currently 150 customers without water in Water District 2. They are asking people to please conserve and use minimal water at this time while they are scrambling to fix the issue and have representatives from Rural Water Association coming to assist with repairs. This is the most current information we have in this fluid situation. Again there are no new fire threats as this time and the current mandatory evacuation orders are still active and in effect. We will update again if anything changes or new information becomes available.

Absolutely incredible considering the size of this fire.

With all the rice being cut, I’m surprised there haven’t been any combines catch a field on fire.

Don't they usually burn sugar cane fields every year? What are the farmers doing after the harvest if they can't burn the fields?

Hope they can get this thing taken care of today. A new fire to the east? I swear the arsonists are taking advantage of all the attention these fires are getting.

They arrested someone yesterday for lighting napkins on fire and throwing them out the car window. Said he didn't start any fires but will be charged to the most extreme level they are able to.

More rain chances today. That decent sized shower/storm in the general area of the fire would be great if it panned out exactly that way:

Just seeing it back in model runs has to lift the spirits a bit. Doesn't mean it will happen, but it does give a little hope.

The NAM isn't as robust for today, but still has some scattered showers. It is starting to show a little pattern shift. You see maybe a little short wave trying to work around the periphery of "the dome" toward the end of the run. It is also encouraging in that it is starting to show a more normal look with the return of at least the chance of popup showers.

Sure would be nice if Chicken would simplify this process.

This fire is about 35 miles from my house. Yesterday the smoke was fairly bad most of the morning ... ie. did not stay outside very long. Today, no smoke here.

That area is mostly wooded with lots of pine trees. It is a good deer hunting area.

That fire was contained pretty quickly. Less than 10 acres were burned.

The state has officially named the fire in the Singer/Merryville area as the "Tiger Island Fire"
Due to it starting near a hunting club of the same name
