Why would you walk you and your girlfriend directly toward danger?

Saw this video of a liberal activist seemingly out on a date late at night in NY. A mostly peaceful individual walks by him and starts smashing something just out of view, clearly behaving erratically, and the guy walks directly toward him, with his woman in tow? And then confronts him? And they both just stand there as the danger escalates?
At any rate the white guy gets stabbed a lot and dies on the street. They edited the stabbing part of the video out. It baffles me how people are so anti-racist that they put themselves firmly in the path of death.

Me? I give it a wide berth. I cross the street. I turn the other direction. I run if I feel like it's the best options. This guy just strolled into an awful death.

I think it’s incredibly shitty to dislike an upstanding person who works hard and loves his family simply because he’s a certain skin color.
I also think it’s incredibly shitty that people would be labeled as a racist if they did not ignore legitimate and basic survival instincts simply because the person has a certain skin color.
At a certain point, being an “anti-racist” requires you to abandon logic, reason and most importantly safety.

What a sickening thing to watch. If he would have had a gun and killed the attacker, he would have been branded a murdering racist. Now he is just another dead person. She is fortunate that she only got spat on and not laying on the ground bleeding to death.
