Thats an issue in Louisiana ( and almost everywhere in the world). Certain portions of the community only care about their tiny little neighborhood.

OK so it was part of a larger state gas tax? I thought it may have been a parish tax. I will admit im not that familiar with some of these details.
ETA: I will add that Louisiana's state gas tax is among the lowest in the country.

This. Also to help people that worked at Angola, nuclear plant, and paper mills on the west bank get over to the east bank, and those on east bank that worked at Big Cajun could get to west bank easier. The ferry there was fairly inconsistent. It was never intended to alleviate traffic in Baton Rouge. The bridge was supposed to have been built like thirty years ago.

Part of the TIMED program. Built to replace the SFV ferry and for economic development of that area.

No it didn’t. It was part of the TIMED plan which was for economic development.
Riverbend opened in 1986. Bridge opened in 2011.

Per Wikipedia it had 107k in 2005. Traffic has gotten worse since then. I didn't validate the WK source btw.
Either way, it's laughable that we allocated that much money to a project that benefits so few people.

And we haven’t gotten shite for our gas tax thus far so...

Pretty good presentation on it below. I always think it is funny when I hear Congressman Graves criticize the bridge, being his dad's firm helped build it.

It’s laughable that the civic leaders in four parishes couldn’t then and can’t now get together and come up with a plan for growth.
In point of fact, that bridge is serving its purpose of economic development. It was never intended to help traffic. So in that respect it’s doing what was intended.
You should be as disgusted with your leaders and the people who elect them.

If we could have some legal assurances in place that the entire tax could only be used for the intended purpose ( The Governor has no legal way to change it ), I would vote for a gas tax increase.
I would probably vote for it anyway at this point, because its the only way we will get relief, but if I were the Governor, i would run on the premise that it would be airtight that no one could re-direct the funds.

I am the first one to hate on that bridge but in reality it is smart to build that kind of thing way before you need it. When you need it then it is really hard to get done as we see in EBR.

This was tried in the last session and was shot down in committee. It will be brought up again in this session and it needs to be supported. Everyone pays a gas tax that uses the roads.

Fair enough. Your vote, your choice. I’d cancel you out though cause I’m convinced the money would be syphoned off for other purposes. We were told With the first gas tax that this was it. Everything will be handled if you just give us this tax! LOFnL. It takes them 20 years to start a project. By then the budget is blown. Same shite different administrations.
