EVERY single comment from people of all ages was the same:
"i've lived in the south my entire life and i have NEVER heard of this"
I had my wife's grandmother who just turned 90 tell me a few years ago not to dig in the garden on Good Friday because the "ground would bleed." Had never heard of that either...but I heard of THAT before burying bourbon.

I am an umpteenth generation Southerner and have known many Southern brides and have NEVER heard of this custom. I say it's some new Redneck Chic thing that's recently been created.

a new tradition brought to you buy the American Bourbon Association.
ETA: would love to see how anyone who did this and was married in August in south louisiana faired.

They must have run out of stories and made this one up. Never heard of it. Now, what I do know is that if you want to sell your home, you must bury a statue of St. Joseph in the yard upside down.

Never heard of this. We prefer to drink our bourbon, so we don’t care if the weather is bad.

Have love in Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, and Florida. Have never heard of this. Sounds like a waste

Dollars to donuts the editor couldn't tell you why greens and black eyed peas are served on NYD.

Does the groom bury an old door knob or house key to stave off his bride's "monthly visitor" on the big day?

This sounds like a contrived thing for people with excessive shiplap and word art ("Harvest", "Love", "Gather", "Thankful and Blessed", "Our daily bread") scattered throughout their home

I did this for my wedding last October in NC. On our wedding day, we had an 80% chance of rain headed for us at the time of our outdoor ceremony. Did the ceremony, then dug up our bottle right after to take shots out of it with our wedding party.
It’s got my vote that it works

Something from the country
Something more urban
I've never heard of
Burying any bourbon.
Was that a fricking Haiku? Wild shite

If this is a southern tradition, its specific to one small area of the south. I have never heard of this and I have lived in the south all my life.

Now I drank a bottle of bourbon and buried myself in my bride-to-be about a month before our wedding.
Didn’t stop rain on our wedding day but sure made for good times…

Wow, one in the wild. Well you've gotta elaborate for us
