Had a discussion with my SO (no pics) earlier this week and she wanted to know why haven’t made any effort to pull everything from the garage and decorate. I pointed out to her that our kids are grown, they have a family of their own and we won’t even be home for Xmas, because we’ll be visting them in California. So why bother? IDGAF about what other people in my neighborhood has up, I’m not in competition with anyone, I just don’t feel like pulling that shite out of the garage.

Convince me OT.

You sound fun. I bet you're a hoot at parties.

I think the OT came to the agreement that we contract out putting up the Christmas stuff to our landscape services

It’s nostalgic for her. She can remember the good times with the kids as she is putting them up and looking at them. If she wants to do it and all you really need to do is pull them from the garage then do it.

Because it's a fun time of year, and I find decorating the house for the various holidays fun.

Don’t bother man. Your wife is getting it elsewhere anyway.

Be honest. My superior lighting and decorations made you quit. It's OK to admit it.

That’s probably the only reason I would.

well, you could always do it cause it matters to someone else (her) and not focus on your own selfish, self-centered perspective. But that might be too Christmas-like for you.

Because it's still before Thanksgiving. That's all that needs to be said, at least until after Thanksgiving. Then you can have this argument all over again.

Because it's tradition and changes the house up for a month and a half or so. Didn't read enough of your post to see if you mentioned whether or not you had kids but the youngsters usually love it too.

to each his own, if you have no kids and dont want to decorate then dont, no one should care one way or the other.

with that said, you dont live alone so if she want to decorate or have decorations up, clearly signaled by her asking you to, then dont be surprised if she leaves you inconsiderate arse who is to lazy to put up a few decorations to make her happy

Because she wants to? Hearing about not decorating might be worse than the effort of decorating.

We didn't decorate a few years ago because of this very reason. Left about a week before Christmas to visit with family and didn't come home until the end of January.

ETA: Didn't have kids at the time
