Everyone wants their share of the pie. It’s the natural order of our state. The state is a leach to the O&G industry. Then it breeds people who are leaches to anything else that’s successful. And if you can’t leach, you just oppose something until you get your share

It's that kind of NIMBY attitude that holds us back as a state. If we don't let them build it here, they will just go to like a remote area of Mississippi with a population of 14 people.

People need jobs. Half the population getting cancer in 20 years is a small price to pay for financial security.

It's call pragmatism.

Hasn't there been an existing cyanide plant there or near there already?

I'm currently reading a biography of pink floyd and came across this blurb from an American tour in the early '70s:

quote:

In New Orleans, the band's rental truck, containing every piece of equipment, was stolen. Steve O'Rourke would have to bribe the local police to ensure its return

That's NO in a nutshell.

LA is second-to-last in Intelligence level amongst state scores.

Find me a state doesn't have a NIMBY attitude. Any area with a decent population will have push back to a new plant or something like this. This isn't unique to Louisiana.

People hear “Cyanide plant” they think poison.

If you tell them it’s a hydrocyanic acid plant it’s much less scary. The plant already exists. They are pretty much just adding a unit to produce more of what they are already safely making

You must have missed the Austin vs New Orleans thread. Austin and TX is a shithole compared to New Orleans and Louisiana. New Orleans has greatly improved in a facets the state is making a major comeback.

Sure. I just don't think calling it cyanide is the issue here. I think it's just nimby people. The

Every chem plant and refinery in the state has much more deadly shite sitting in pressurized vessels and flowing through million miles of .5 cm thick pipes.

It's exactly like Fr33 said. Words are skeery.
