You are a danger to other motorists.

Because in Baton Rouge, everyone's faces are buried in TikTok, and they didn't notice. In Houston, the problem is traffic will have 24" between cars, and someone thinks because they put their blinker on, you're supposed to brake and let them in even if there is an open slot of two car lengths directly behind you. frick off, you're the piss poor planner, not me.
And this is commuting time, so it's not some little old lady that couldn't see the exit for the HOV or something until the last minute.

Do you also wait to put your blinker on until you've crashed from 45 to 15 to make a turn?

I will agree with the OP on all but the flashers.
I will also admit to speeding up to close the gap if the gap was already too small for the other car to merge safely, but they are planning on doing it anyway.
If I’m getting over blinker = notice. If you are getting over = you can’t have my lane just because you put your blinker on.

Just because you want in my lane, doesnt mean I should hit my brakes at 70 MPH to make room for you. Thats very unsafe. Because the car traveling at 75 MPH behind me isnt expecting braking in an open lane

Statistically speaking, 90% of the posters in this thread are the problem. People are idiot assholes behind the wheel and I think most of it subconscious.
Just get the frick out of the way.
Just get the frick out of the way.

Red light - stop

Oh no. I read it just fine. Perhaps a re-read is warranted for you. Here, I'll drop some clues
quote:
immediately speed up in order to ensure I am not able to get in front of him.
They arent speeding up. They were already going faster than him
quote:
This happens almost daily
He does it ALL THE TIME
quote:
I am not a slow driver that is holding up traffic, and even if I were
Yeah, right
quote:
I still get over though.
The money shot
quote:
They always hit their brakes to ultimately let me over, and the best is when they lay on the horn to let me know there frustrations
Exactly what I described. Blinker on, I'm coming over no matter what
quote:
My favorite are the ones who are already behind you, see you put your blinker on to change lanes and then get into the new lane and speed up to prevent you from changing and being in front of them.
This makes no sense. He was already in front of them. Why would they care?

always use my turn signal. Yet, I very, very rarely have anyone speed up when I do. Probably less than a handful of times per year. Weird.
Had a coworker who once said she doesn’t let cars in because she “doesn’t want anyone getting one over on her”
As if switching lanes is an affront to her
Just a wild way to navigate life

Your insurance provider is going to have a field day with this thread after the next wreck you cause. Good luck, baw.

if people are frequently honking at you, there might be a problem with your driving style.
I can't remember the last time I was honked at.

Well if you think he’s lying then there’s no point debating. If you’re taking what he’s saying at face value for the sake of discussion, then no, the rear car isn’t going faster, hence it’s speeding up to cut him off from changing lanes.

I had a guy from Boston tell me that all blinkers do is let the people behind you know your intentions so they could screw you in traffic.

If you want to get in another lane and someone is already there, then YOU slow your arse down and get in behind him
Nice troll, tho

I think you may want to reread my post. This is clearly not what was said. What you state is 100% correct; however, when you’re cruising with traffic and there’s at least a 2 car gap between you and the one in front, then you shouldn’t accelerate when you see someone ahead of you with a blinker on trying to merge. In this case you’re the problem.

Driving well is just another aspect of life. It's not much different than any other social activity. It requires situational awareness, decent critical thinking skills, and a little etiquette. Treat others on the road as you want to be treated, and you'll find that most people will reciprocate.
The issue the OP is having is a little complicated, because there are a variety of things that need to be accounted for. You can glean a lot of information about people by just casual observation. Within seconds on the road, I know if someone is going to let me over or not. I will pick my battles. If I see some trashed out Altima speeding along in the left lane or driving erratically, I'm not going to expect them to politely let me over just because I put on my turn signal.
A little common sense goes a long way. If you wish to get over, use some basic courtesy. Accelerate! Signal. Move with a purpose. The reason I put accelerate first, is you need to be able to maintain a safe distance when making the move. Don't rely on their kindness to allow you to get over. Your signal is a declaration of intent and puts them on notice that you will now be in their lane. Do not languish there. Move with a purpose, and if they now wish to overtake you, at the earliest convenience, you should do the polite thing as well and move over.
The left lane is not for cruising. It is for passing. Share the road, but use some common sense.

Nah, read it correctly. Why should I be the one that has to use my brakes just to let you in. If I feel like speeding up to prevent you from cutting me off, then that’s my call.
Posted on 1/28/25 at 1:32 pm to Midget Death Squad
This is like a blanket apology for all drivers too stupid to use blinkers.
Can we have one arguing for not using headlights after dark, next?
