The cars are as fast as ever. But it’s hard to watch cars go around in a circle when it’s something you aren’t able to do on your
Own like other sports. It seems to be a great place to go and be a part of it, as some 300,000 fans go every year.

It’s a symptom of the balkanization of American culture. I miss big events and moments that used to unite us as Americans. It’s what made this country great.

It seems like the only one most people still watch is the Super Bowl. I know most CFB fans watch the natty too but nothing like the Super Bowl.

I miss major heavyweight boxing. I guess I grew up in the era of Mike Tyson's prime and those were huge events.

Much prefer that over Formula 1 where I have never personally witnessed a close finish.

That F1 race this morning that was basically decided with twenty laps left and a 28 second margin of victory was scintillating.

More choices to watch now instead of speeding cars going round-and-round with the occasional fiery crash. Bores the frick out of me.

Yep, that and no right turns. More boring to watch than golf.

The Monaco GP has been a parade for so many years since the cars became too wide for the circuit, making overtaking almost non-existent.

It's still a spectacle, and qualifying yesterday was the best in ages at any venue.

It was decided when VER claimed pole position yesterday.

I was searching before starting a post. My question, where do they find these guys who drive? How does a 25 year old get the knowledge and experience to be chosen to drive at Indy?

They race karts, then move up to other feeder series. Everything from Nissan Sentras to Porsches.

Usually open wheelers tend to feed up through open wheel series, but they can jump across if they have the support.

My gf went to high school with NASCAR Xfinity one time driver. She spent every weekend at the track during high school and took drives all over the US and Europe just to keep her name out there.

Because our society lacks the attention span to pay attention to a race for that long

The Indy 500 will be back the first time someone whips around the track at a blazing 100MPH in an electric.

Until then, it'll be treated like midget wrestling.

Cant decide if you are making fun of ICE cars, EV cars or midgets. First of all, midgets are funny as hell, ICE cars made racing and vice-versa, and an EV Indy Car would break every track record in existence. Except endurance.

Open-wheel racing in the US is kind of the canary in the coal mine when it comes to money sucking all of the life from a sport. In the heyday of CART, the fans were lower-middle-class people raising families on $22,000 per year. When the team owners busted everything up so that the Salt Walthers of the world could extract even more money from the sport, they kind of killed the goose that laid the golden egg. No one wanted to watch anymore.

The same thing is playing out with college football now.

That said, CART before the split was a really cool series and I miss it.

Climate change. Too much use of fossil fuels and excessive carbon dioxide emissions.

They should start racing EVs. Then charge them to complete the race. It would be like the 24 hours at LeMans.
