Why is putting ketchup on a hotdog considered "childish"?

On Sunday’s season premiere of Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown,” the president discussed food and foreign policy over noodles with the celebrity chef in Vietnam.

Somehow the talk turned from the bowls of bun cha pork and noodles in front of them to the ballpark favorite.

“Is ketchup on a hot dog ever acceptable?” Bourdain asked the leader of the free world in an episode taped in May.

“No,” the president quickly responded. “I mean that ... that’s one of those things like, well, let me put it this way, it’s not acceptable past the age of 8.”

Never knew this. I put both ketchup and mustard on my hotdog, so it won't taste completely boring.

putting ketchup on a hot dog is the equivalent of putting cheese on a hamburger.

That's because people who worry about what other people think about how they like to eat their food are, well, let me put it this way, it’s not acceptable past the age of 8.

Because ketchup is sweet and sugary and it goes great with the salt on french fries/fried food in general, but on a hot dog it's overpowering and gross and only children typically like it.

eta

To clarify IDGAF what someone puts on their hot dog, this is just my personal preference.

Hot dogs suck. So best believe I'm slathering that shite in ketchup and mustard if I find myself in a position where it's my best food option.

At the least I have to have ketchup and mustard on my hotdog. My ultimate hotdog has ketchup, mustard, chili, shredded cheddar (under chili) and sweet relish
