Les Miles has lost control of higher education.

That's a bit of a generalization.

It's LSU. If you want a quality education there go to Tulane or Southern, maybe ULL.

that's not true. it's one the few unsubsidized athletic departments. lsu sports (football) helps the school out financially. school would actually be worse off without the football program.

Most years the money the university receives from athletic department would not cover the budget of the library. There will be a day in the near future when buildings on the campus will have to be condemned while sitting in the shadow of the next stadium expansion. It is not the fault of the school, it is the mindset of the alumni. Professionals that were educated by LSU will line up to give 10s of thousands of dollars to TAF and never a dime to the university itself.

this is true. i was just speaking about state funding. our alumni base is definitely not geared toward improving academics.

You can still get a great education at LSU. Everyone isn't...but that shouldn't stop any one individual. I had some great teachers, good small classes with very high quality competition, and excellent research facilities. 99.9% of students don't want that...but it's there.

Did you mean; how do all those schools where the majority of students actually have to take out loans and pay for their own education rank so much higher than LSU?

Even so, that would account for a small portion of the budget;let major universities only recieve monetary contributions from a third of their alumni, and LSU is only the middle of the pack in P5 conference enrollment so it doesn't have an especially large alumni base.

In other words, LSU's alumni giving us obviously problematic, but it's only a small piece of the larger problem; that anger problem probably decreases alumni giving as well.

Yeah. It's not a bad school by any means. In my field, LSU has a very good graduate program. In fact, I met one of those graduates today; she is one of the the most renowned scholars in my field. Very impressive professional.

Tops. People that have no business in college, even community college in some instances, are able to attend the flagship university of Louisiana on the taxpayer's dime.

Most Asians from Nola go to Xavier (for pharmacy), UNO (cheaper STEM school), or out of state. It's the "fratty, disappointment to family" ones that go to LSU.

Oh look at that, Louisiana and Mississippi at the bottom of that list. Who'd a thunk?

Are you saying TOPS ruined LSU and the state?

I would say having such low requirements to receive TOPS has hampered the program's ability to help the state and higher education.
