Why is LSU ranked 2nd to last academically in the SEC?

Vandy = 15
FL = 50
UGA = 56
aTm = 74
Auburn = 99
Bama = 103
TN = 103
USCe = 107
UM = 111
UK = 133
Arky = 135
Ole Miss = 135
LSU = 135
MS State = 176
I guess LA's stupid budget and constitutions, bad leadership ( governors, congress) and maybe accept LA is a bad state. Can LA ever compete with the rest of the nation

Louisiana does a poor job of preparing it's high school students for college.
Also, the motivation of students at LSU is also likely a large factor.

For what the average LSU student intends to do with his degree, probably just fine.

I'd like to see how many students leave the state for college. There are a number of high schools that prepare just fine, it those kids that decide to leave the state for bigger and better degrees. Not to mention Tulane has a shite ton of out of state students

Correct, the highest performing students will leave the state because their goals are outsize what an education according to LSU's mission will provide them.

It has more to do with optics than anything else. The problems at LSU are entirely the result of F. King Alexanders statements which misled the public into believing the University was poor, pitiful, and on the verge of collapse. Nothing could be further from the truth, but perception is reality with publications such as this one.

Most of these academic rankings by state lists are garbage. They are propagated by the teacher unions/big government types to brow beat state governments into increasing already bloated educational budgets. Spending is nowhere close to being the problem with American education. In fact, a lot of the problem is too much spending. If you look at school systems budgets and how much is spent on ancillary garbage that takes away classroom instruction time, you'll see why Johnny can't read.

But I thought you had free instate tuition? That's one thing that has helped UGA keep talent home. That and the growth of Atlanta has helped us.
