I don't think there is so much a feeling of "hate" between north and south Louisiana folks, as much as an acknowledgement that they are very different.

I’m from south Louisiana and I’ve never met a single person from Monroe, Shreveport, Alexandria, etc. that I like. So I’ll be the one to say I hate them. Bunch of lame hick wannabes

It’s because we all come from the spawn of prisoners and whores that found their freedom from France by moving here- it’s France’s fault, like always

And I actually don’t think we are really that divided. Plenty of situations where people help each other out. But yeah within states and regions there is a bit of tribalism.

But people in Louisiana in instances will stick up for Louisiana vs another state.

I spent my first 18 years in Baton Rouge, and my last 40 years in Monroe. I never really noticed any hatred for either side but the culture definitely changes somewhere around Alexandria.

Only the hardcore ULL grad "Lafayette First" people hate Baton Rouge. For everyone of those people, there's 4 or 5 people who eat and shop in BR or send their kids to LSU.

No idea. But I can't imagine this is real.

I am in the least bit worried about North LA

New Orleans hates the North Shore

Can't speak on this one either

Lafayette hates BR

UL - LSU fans just don't like each other.

We are a very unique state. We're one of the bigger melting pots in the union. Born, raised and live in South Central Louisiana, Acadiana. We're Cajun and proud of it. North LA in my opinion has 0 culture. There's a couple colleges that people go to and that's about it. NOLA is another world on it's own. We're just super diverse. We're more on a cultural pride level, than an entire state level. At least that's what I observe.

People are all missing the point. They are saying how all states have different regions. Yes obviously but what I am pointing out is the actual division. Other states don’t have the division the way that Louisiana does.

I think NE Louisiana has much more in common with South Louisiana than the rest of North LA. River culture. They have the bayous and oxbows like South LA has. NW and Central Louisiana is mostly piney woods and rolling hills. (Pretty country IMO).

correct, there is actual division. nocal and socal. chicago and the collar counties vs the rest of the state. rural northern michigan vs the downstate city people ( i think south carolina has something similar)

Man, I agree with the Acadiana pride and culture. People are more proud of Acadiana than they are the rest of the state maybe excluding Nola. But at the same time that doesn’t mean North LA has 0 culture. It’s got the Deep South Bible Belt culture and as a previous poster stated, yes it does blend in more with Arkansas, East Texas and Mississippi. But there’s nothing wrong with that. The Deep South is a unique place compared to the rest of the country in its own right.

You can get some of the best music and food in the Deep South. Don’t get me started on how nice and down to earth the people are in the Deep South. That attitude in regards to how Acadiana is so much more culturally significant than the rest of the state is exactly why people can’t stand Lafayette. Don’t get me wrong I love Acadiana but y’all aren’t better than the rest of the state.

Still got the same issues that Monroe or Houma has.

Here’s a not so hot take. They’re both necessary evils that people find themselves in. People want to debate which has this and which has that. They’re both urban/suburban sprawls that won’t quit growing. Basically cancers. You find a good community and the developers come and ruin it. It’s never ending.

The goal is do 10-15 years in a metroplex then get the hell out.

Slidell is nothing like Mandeville or Covington.

These days it’s made up of 80% south shore transplants. Covington had its first Mardi Gras parade in the 1800’s. Covington and Mandeville were both resort towns visited by wealthy NOLA residents each summer. Check out a map of military road in Covington, you’ll see a lot of “old NOLA” family street names. Pretty cool. Overall, southern St Tammany has always had a very strong Nola connection and still does to this day. It’s suburban New Orleans nowadays.

same here, well sort of. I work in Lafayette. I never hear folks complaining about Baton Rouge at all. I was raised in the greater BR area, and certainly don't hate it. I do however complain about traveling the basin bridge

Lafayette has way more going for it than Baton Rouge does. Nobody gives a frick about BR outside LSU football.

With all of the problems NOLA has at least it has the added benefits of NOLA culture. Baton Rouge has NOLA type issues with few redeeming qualities.

If there is comparatively higher “division” in Louisiana, my guess would be that it’s because we are a small, low-end state but do have two very distinct and unique cultural hotspots, with Acadiana and New Orleans. Being from either of these two places actually means something. You can debate the value of it, but you can’t deny the reality of it, and it goes beyond the urban/rural divide that exists everywhere.

What other similar state (that’s similar in size and importance) has anything like that?

It’s more culturally significant, flat-out. That doesn’t make the people better, but it is what it is.

I fricking wish.

I'd love for LA and Texas to do a straight swap of Beaumont for Shreveport/Bossier.
