Why is it so difficult to find a mattress that can be flipped?

It's time for me to shop for a new mattress set for my wife and myself. I have two decades on a king mattress set that was $2800 then. My neighbor was a rep for Sealy, and told me this was the very best they made. Had very durable and nice looking material on both sides. He also told me that the way to preserve the mattress was to follow the same pattern as with air conditioning filters, "when you replace your filters in April, flip your mattress over. In July, spin it around. In October flip it. In January spin it around, again. It will double its lifespan if you do this." So, following that advice, here it is, 20 years later, and my back finally started noticing a bit of sag and before it becomes uncomfortable I've decided to shop for a new mattress set.
What I've discovered is that most mattresses now are not designed to flip and have the plush surface on both sides any longer. They are also not designed to last a decade or longer, using terms like 'memory foam'. To me, that just means that after a while the top is sagging to fit my arse, not providing resilience. I could be wrong. No experience with it.
So, what does the OT recommend? I'm 70 now, and my mattress flipping days are numbered, especially for a king sized mattress. I hate foam mattresses, but I have family members that seem to really like theirs.

Bed discussions are overwhelming with all of the online options, Sleep Number, Tempur-Pedic, then your more traditional Sealy and Serta types.
I got some type of medium Tempur-Pedic that was expensive and seems really good, especially after some break-in. But, I have to say, it's not that cushiony. I suppose I could add a thicker mattress pad, but then that seems to defeat the purpose of whatever supportive tech they have in the bed.

I often see mattresses alongside the road on 377 between Granbury and Fort Worth. You might check what's available before spending money on a new one.

I'm 70 now,
Time for a split king with at least separate adj tilt and height. Agj firmness if desired. I bought Saatva 8 years ago... still good. I don't know current brands and models. Come in super handy during the occasional recuperation.

I never understood the purpose of spending that much on a mattress that you will frick and sleep on leaving all kinds of bodily fluids from sweat, pee, gizz, anal secreations, period blood, and others. I know most people would put a fitted sheet on a bed, but that offers no true protection. Heck even a towel would not protect the mattress, if you go to pound town on a certain time of the month.

Mattress sales reps.....talk about one of the all-time rackets. How did we come to this as a society?

There is so much to unpack here and the picture I have of your bed situation is cracking me up and making me cringe all at once

20 f'ing years ago? You are truly the mark that mattress salesmen salivate over. But this, sir, is a Vera Wang mattress, totally not made in the exact same factory as the $400 king from Sam's.

Or get a sleep number, it will last longer than that and you don't have to do any of that shite.
I've had mine for 17 years, still going strong.

Most people will use a mattress protector, and us pimps put down an additional blood proof pad during that time of the month.

He could get one that is pre-jizzed.

It's just more eshittificaiton.
Royal Bedding in Birmingham still manufactures two sided mattresses.
Or they did last time I checked.
I've moved on to memory foam. Don't buy a tempurpedic there are plenty of options just as good for a fraction of the price.

All of our mattresses come from the Original Mattress Factory. They are made to be rotated/flipped on a schedule and are built with the same material and springs facing both sides.

Years ago a bunch of elderly people died in a nursing home fire.
They started mandating the bottom of mattresses be made with flame retardant material.
Therefore they are no longer designed to be flipped.
You can rotate.

Akchually us REAL pimps have a side-piece or three to hit while the main squeeze’s suffering from “red river-tosis”
Smack it, flip it…..rub it down
