Never smoked cigarettes, but smoked plenty of other things. To me, seems like the act of smoking becomes an enjoyable time killer.

I do know that dropping things you enjoy in daily life is a difficult mental objective to overcome.

If anything, dipping is actually more disgusting. I’m not even being judgmental here and I dip sometimes. Your comment just seems like throwing stones in a glass house

Eating a big bacon egg and cheese wrap or biscuit then occupying the large stall for about 20 minutes while you throw in a lipper and evacuate your bowels is almost heaven.

It’s not once you go a few days without smoking.

I was going through a pack a day and quit 29 days ago.

The most tempting time was when I drive, but once you quit for a few days, you actually forget about smoking.

Everyone in this thread is off base, it's because nicotine's affect on our nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and the corresponding increase in those receptors formation of memories

quote:

"Compared to injections of saline, nicotine strengthened neuronal connections, sometimes up to 200 percent," explained Dr. Dani. "And this strengthening of connections underlies new memory formation. We found that nicotine could strengthen neuronal synaptic connections only when the so-called reward centers sent a dopamine signal. And that was the critical process in creating the memory associations."

So on the one hand, the study just underlined something we already knew: Feel-good activities make us want to do them again. But on the other, it showed on a neurological level how our memories of smoking cigarettes get hardwired into the brain. And more important, how all these associated memories—such as drinking and hanging with friends—all get bundled into these same, nicotine-reinforced memory pathways.

That’s why I’m using the nicotine patch.

I had them when I quit, but I went four days before I had the energy to open the box.

I’m can only describe it as the inherent need of wanting to rail a thick line after too much whiskey.

It keeps you going for sure.

I’ve gone on a weekend binge before starting on Friday night and stopping Sunday night consuming only whiskey and cocaine, no food, no sleep. 5-6 grams and 3 liters of Jim Beam and somehow don’t die

I’m really not even sure how it’s possible

I’ve learned vicariously that for men who smoke cigarettes, it’s the next best thing to cock.

And it is a motherfricker to break. Just went 4 days without one in an attempt to stop yet again, and bought a pack yesterday. Gonna try to get back at it after this pack is gone and not buy anything else. It’s tough to break when depression is in full force at the same time. I honestly dont wish depression on anyone, it just sucks the soul out of you.

Ive stopped multiple times for various lengths. Stopped for over year recently. When will power is strong and youre strong mentally as a person it’s definitely doable just cold turkey. Gotta get past the first week or two. But when youre down in life and dont have much will power or energy to begin with, it’s almost impossible. It goes hand in hand with drinking, which goes hand in hand with depression, which all feeds itself like a vicious cycle. It’s extremely tough to get out of.

And good for you, stay strong.
